PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Antwon Dickens (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Bill Goldman (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Antwon Dickens!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Bill Goldman!
The judges for this bout are Franklyn Lucas, Reed Andrews and Bruno Lombardi.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Dickens fails to land the takedown.
Dickens really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.
Goldman keeping a good distance there, avoiding the body shot.

Dickens closes the distance and clinches.

Goldman jumps guard and drags Dickens to the mat. He's obviously going to be looking for submissions off his back.
Goldman pulls Dickens in close to prevent any damage.
Goldman is trying to keep Dickens in close.
Goldman controlling the position.
Goldman wants to sweep here but Dickens controlling him for the moment.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Dickens would like to get this fight back to the feet but can't get free from the closed guard.
Goldman bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Dickens's guard.
Goldman not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up.

Dickens controls Goldman momentarily but Goldman frees himself.

Dickens wants to get back to his feet but Goldman drags him back down.

Goldman tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Goldman has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!

Goldman decides to stand back up. Goldman steps back and let's Dickens get back to his feet.
Dickens misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out.
Dickens keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl.

Dickens shoots and misses

and Goldman counters by moving into the clinch.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Antwon Dickens. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Dickens is breathing heavily.

Goldman breaks the clinch.

and Goldman counters with a nice single leg takedown and he's in Dickens's guard now.
Goldman pushes down on Dickens's leg and manages to get into half guard.
Dickens tries to get to full guard but Goldman has control of the leg.

Dickens kicks Goldman off and gets back to his feet.

Dickens closes the distance and clinches.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for leaving it all in the cage!

Dickens keeping moving, preventing Goldman from controlling successfully.
Goldman prevents Dickens from getting back to his feet.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Goldman would like to get this fight back to the feet but can't get free from the closed guard.
Dickens wants to stand and escape but Goldman is having none of it.
Dickens is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fight is doing enough on the ground.

Goldman has control of Dickens's left arm, preventing Dickens from doing any damage.

Dickens will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.

Goldman tries to strike from the bottom but it doesn't land.

Dickens wants to pass the guard but Goldman is keeping the position.
Dickens thows a big elbow that misses.

The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!

and Goldman counters with a takedown into full mount! That could mean trouble for Dickens!

Dickens wants to hold on but Goldman pushes him away.

Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Goldman wants to control the pace but Dickens is squirming around nicely.

Dickens is looking to improve his position but Goldman isn't that keen on the idea.

Goldman is thinking about an arm triangle here, looking to tighten it up before moving to side control. Dickens can see it coming though and defends well with a couple of strikes to the head and some good arm positioning.
Goldman takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Dickens tries to reverse the position but Goldman maintains control.

Goldman is throwing punches to the body, looking to soften Dickens up.

Goldman throws a big right hand but he misses and hits the mat. Ouch.
Dickens breaks Goldman's hooks off and manages to turn into his guard.
Dickens lands a couple of digs.
Dickens is working Goldman over from the guard. He should look to pass the guard and do a little more damage with these strikes.

Dickens drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Dickens jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.
Dickens chips away with some ground and pound.
Goldman has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Goldman doesn't do any damage with a couple of strikes from the bottom.
Goldman will have to put a bit more behind his punches if he's going to do any damage from this position.

Dickens avoids a guillotine attempt easily.
Dickens working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage.

Goldman wriggles free and stands up.
Goldman shoots in and drives through. Dickens sprawls well.

Dickens closes the distance and clinches.

Goldman manages to break the clinch.

Dickens clinches up against the cage.

Goldman escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.

Dickens drives through with a really nice takedown into side control.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

Dickens decides to stand back up. Dickens steps back and let's Goldman get back to his feet.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Bill Goldman showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
Well, the break between rounds is over. Let's get back to the scrappin! This is the final round!

and Goldman counters with a single leg into guard. Dickens didn't expect that.
Dickens is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Goldman is controlling him.

Goldman decides he's had enough of playing guard and decides to stand. Come on Dickens, up you get!

Dickens wants to control from the top but Goldman keeps moving.
Dickens is going to have to think about doing something other than just controlling because Goldman is managing to avoid having the position dictated to him.
Goldman controls Dickens momentarily but Dickens frees himself.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.

and Goldman counters with a nice double leg into side control. Dickens won't be happy with that.

Goldman is maintaining the dominant position - no doubt Dickens will start to get frustrated soon if he's not already.

Goldman thuds a mid kick into his opponent's body. That will wear on Dickens if he has to take too many more of those.

Dickens slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.

Dickens moves into range and throws a combination. A nice jab followed by a hook to the body.
Goldman shoots in but Dickens avoids the takedown attempt easily.
Goldman tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Dickens paws at him with a jab and circles away.

Goldman shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Dickens's guard.
Goldman postures up in Dickens's guard and throws a big left but Dickens blocks it.

Goldman is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there.
Antwon Dickens has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!

Goldman closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard.

I've got Goldman winning every round here. Surely the decision will go his way and he'll pick up a well deserved decision victory. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
