Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Vance Gates (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Brandon Renard (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Gates's entrance music is My time is now . A fine choice. Vance Gates has a significant reach advantage - let's see if he can make it count.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Renard misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out.
Renard looks really tired already! That doesn't bode well for a good, competitive fight!
Renard looks for a takedown but Gates sprawls well.

Gates shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Let's see what he's got on the mat.
Gates is looking to work some ground and pound but Renard has wrist control.
Gates missing there with some ground and pound from the guard.

Gates stands up and waves to Renard to follow him.

The fight moves into the clinch position.

Gates jumps guard and drags Renard to the mat. He's obviously going to be looking for submissions off his back.

Gates looking for submissions from the bottom here. Moving his hips around, possibly looking for an armbar.

Gates has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Renard can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.
Gates will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.

Gates has his feet on Renard's hips. He pushes off and gets to his feet. Nice work.

Gates has closed the distance and engaged Renard in a clinch.

There's a bit of a scramble here and now Gates is on top in guard.

Renard working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Gates doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Gates manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.

Gates is pushing down on Renard's leg trying to pass to half guard. Renard is fighting to maintain full guard but Gates has managed to sneak the leg through.
Gates is trying to control. Renard wants to improve his position but can't escape this time.
Gates really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.

Gates decides to stand up and try his luck on the feet.

No luck with that takedown attempt from Gates.
Renard tries to clinch but fails miserably
and Gates counters with a straight punch to the midsection.
Gates wants to clinch.
Gates changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Renard tries to avoid it but Gates manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Renard to the ground. Renard escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.

Gates shoots in for a takedown and gets it.
Gates tries to pass the half guard into mount. Renard knows what he's doing though and prevents the attempt.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Gates is trying to control the action in half guard but Renard is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard.

Gates escapes and gets back to his feet.
Renard doesn't succeed with the takedown
and Gates counters with a flying knee. Nice.
Vance Gates has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Brandon Renard.
Gates tries to close the distance and clinch but Renard swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.
Gates shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Renard but Renard pushes him off and we're back to square one.

The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

Renard is looking for a triangle but Gates pushes his legs off easily.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!

and Renard decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Gates's guard.

Gates pushes Renard off and scrambles back to his feet.

Renard bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.
Gates throws a couple of punches but he's in a bad position and they don't land.
Gates tries to buck Renard off but Renard is having none of it.

Gates wants to get back to his feet but Renard is dominant here and he's now got Gates's back!
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Renard has managed to slip his arm under Gates's chin. This could be all over... yep, Gates is tapping out! Submission win for Renard.
