PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Terry Brunk (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Antwuan Dixon (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Brunk kept the crowd waiting but all that was forgotten when his ring entrance music started. The incomparable musical genius that is Hukka Blues. These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 1, fighting out of Las Vegas, Terry Brunk!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Antwuan Dixon!
The judges for this bout are Robert Twigg, Daniel Franklin and Chris Downing.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Brunk tries a head kick but it misses.

Dixon closes the distance and presses his opponent up against the cage.

Brunk is fighting off a takedown attempt but Dixon is just too persistent for him and manages to trip Brunk to the mat. Brunk regains guard as soon as the fighters hit the mat.
Dixon wants to stand but Brunk has a closed guard, so he can't escape.

Brunk is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.
Brunk thows some rabbit punches from the bottom but they don't do any damage.

Dixon avoids a guillotine attempt easily.
Dixon throwing shots from guard but he's hitting more mat than opponent.
Brunk wants to control but Dixon passes easily into half guard.
Dixon works his way into side control.
Dixon really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Brunk. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

Dixon decides to take the fight back to the feet.
Brunk is breathing heavily.

Dixon scores with a one two! Brunk had his feet all tangled up there and couldn't avoid the strikes.
Dixon throws a nice looking combination but Brunk bobs and weaves to avoid any damage.
Terry Brunk seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Dixon is looking for a takedown here. He's shot in and has managed to get it, finishing up in Brunk's half guard.

Dixon is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Brunk is just riding it out for now. Dixon eventually gives up the hold.

Dixon is thinking about going for an arm triangle but he can't free his leg.
Dixon is looking to advance position but Brunk won't allow it.

Dixon stands up and beckons Brunk to join him on the feet.
Dixon fakes with a right hand and throws a good leg kick, right into the thigh. That had to hurt Brunk.
This has been an exciting period of action!

Brunk throwing some weak shots from the bottom that do no damage.
The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
Brunk takes an elbow right on the bridge of the nose and winces in pain.
Dixon wants to control but Brunk is keeping him busy.

Dixon lands a knee to the body and follows it up with some ground and pound to the head. That will wear Brunk down.

Brunk avoids the head kick by Dixon.
Dixon connects with a high kick.
Dixon works over Brunk's head and body with a nice combination.
Brunk drops his hands and takes a jab to the jaw for his troubles.
Dixon throws a head kick that misses.

Dixon scores with a nice takedown into half guard. Let's see what he's got on the ground.
Dixon tries to stand but his hand is stuck under Brunk.
Dixon tries to pass the half guard into mount. Brunk knows what he's doing though and prevents the attempt.

Dixon is trying to work for a kimura. This could be trouble! No, Brunk has managed to free his arm - good work.
Dixon thows a wild elbow that connects with the canvas.
Brunk strikes from the bottom but Dixon uses the opportunity to move to side control.
Brunk wants to control but Dixon postures up.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.
Brunk steps to his left, right into the path of a big body kick from Dixon. That one must have hurt.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.



Dixon gets a takedown into half guard.
Dixon wants to take a breather but Brunk is having none of it.
Dixon works his way into side control.
Brunk tries to buck Dixon off but Dixon is having none of it.

Dixon has had enough of the ground for now and decides to stand.

Brunk tries to keep at a distance but Dixon has taken the fight into the clinch.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Both fighters working to control the clinch.
Dixon fails to pull guard.
Brunk trying to control the position but instead, Dixon has worked for underhooks and has pushed Brunk into the cage.

Dixon manages to break the clinch.

Dixon shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Let's see what he's got on the mat.
Dixon is just sitting in guard, looking to avoid any submissions.

Brunk looking for submissions from the bottom here. Moving his hips around, possibly looking for an armbar.
Antwuan Dixon has got the better of the ground game so far.
Dixon wants to get up but he can't break Brunk's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here.

Dixon gets to his feet. Brunk looking to butt scoot but the ref puts an end to that. On your feet son!

Brunk tries to roll over but Dixon keeps him under control.
The referee walks around the fighters to get a better view of the action. Dixon lands a nice short elbow.
Dixon wants to lay and pray for a moment but Brunk keeps working.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Dixon works his foot free and advances to mount.
Brunk is trying to escape the mount.
Dixon blocks Brunk's feeble attempts to strike from the bottom.

Brunk is wriggling around trying to escape.
Dixon looking to finish Brunk with some ground and pound. This is bad for Brunk!

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.

Dixon tucks in and makes sure he doesn't lose the dominant position.

Dixon has hold of Brunk's left arm, perhaps looking for a submission. The two fighters tussle over control of the isolated limb and Brunk manages to get his arm back to his side and away from danger.

Antwuan Dixon showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action! And we move into the final round!


Brunk moves out of range of the body kick.
Dixon showing good head movement there, avoiding the strikes from Brunk.
Dixon lets the fists fly and connects with a left straight followed by a right hook.

Dixon decides to stand back up. Dixon steps back and let's Brunk get back to his feet.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Brunk is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Dixon defends well.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.
Dixon looking to sit in guard and control but Brunk gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.

Dixon is working an open guard so Brunk takes the opportunity to get back to his feet.

Brunk gets taken down but at least he's managed to land in guard.
Brunk manages to land a sweep and now he's in mount on top!

Brunk stands up from the dominant position, so we're back on the feet.
Brunk takes a body punch but keeps moving.

Dixon wants to clinch.

Dixon shoots in and gets a takedown into half guard. Dixon showed some decent athleticism there.
Brunk is working for an escape here. He's hooked one of Dixon's legs and he's managed to sneak out and take Dixon's back!

Brunk looking to finish the fight with a rear naked choke. Dixon is controlling Brunk 's left arm and he spins nicely into guard.

Dixon connects with a couple of short punches.
Dixon wants to control from the top but Brunk keeps moving.

Brunk has an omoplata and is looking to use it perhaps as a submission or perhaps to transition. Dixon is in a bit of discomfort here, but he's managed to free himself and has dived into side control! That didn't work out too well for Brunk.
Terry Brunk has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
Brunk is looking for a sweep.
Brunk throws a couple of strikes even though he's not really in a good position to do so.
Brunk is looking to slip a leg under and get half guard but Dixon is one step ahead and moves to full mount!
Dixon wants to control the pace but Brunk is squirming around nicely.
Dixon has been the more effective fighter overall so far.
Brunk is wriggling around trying to escape.

Antwuan Dixon is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.

Well Dixon has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
