The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Beauford shoots in looking for a takedown. Nikisch tries to sprawl out of it but Beauford keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Nikisch manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.

Beauford drives through with a really nice takedown into side control.
Nikisch is trying to stand back up. He's worked his way up against the cage but Beauford has just dragged him back down to the mat.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Beauford tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Beauford has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!
Nikisch wants to get back to his feet.

Nikisch throws his opponent off and manages to get back to his feet! Nicely done!
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

Beauford gets a takedown into half guard.
Beauford seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Nikisch does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.

A close round but Art Nikisch will probably get the nod.

Beauford uses good footwork to avoid the strikes from Nikisch.
Nikisch paws at his opponent with the jab and then lunges in with a straight, right on the button.
Carter Beauford seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Nikisch leaves Beauford with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.
No luck with that takedown attempt from Beauford.

Nikisch sneaks out the side door and pushes Beauford away - he's back to his feet. The crowd show their appreciation for the escape.

Beauford feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.

Nikisch is controlling an arm, preventing Beauford from taking his back. Although keeping him in mount is no better to be honest.

Beauford has hold of Nikisch's left arm, perhaps looking for a submission. The two fighters tussle over control of the isolated limb and Nikisch manages to get his arm back to his side and away from danger.

Nikisch is flailing around, obviously not happy about being mounted. Beauford locks hold of one of his arms and spins for an armbar. He's got it! Nikisch is forced to tap!
