PBP Commentary |
Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between David Auton (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and RJ Baker (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Auton comes to the cage accompanied by Ashes of the Wake. We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, David Auton! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, RJ Baker! The judges for this bout are Chris Downing, Tiny Johnson and Robert Twigg.
 The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Auton darts in and lands a nice takedown into half guard. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Baker wants to control but Auton is keeping busy and won't allow it. We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Auton can do anything to dispel that myth. Baker is trying to stand up here but Auton is controlling him well.
Auton is working for a kimura but Baker is defending it quite comfortably.
Baker wants to get back to his feet.
Baker tries to get to full guard but Auton has control of the leg. Auton is keeping good posture, landing some ground and pound. Auton is thwarting Baker's attempts to control the position. Baker is positioning himself well to prevent Auton advancing to mount. Auton looking to pass the half guard. Not this time. Auton is tying to control. Baker wants to improve his position but can't escape this time.
 That's one minute gone in the round. Auton stops Baker from getting back to his feet.
Auton is looking for a kimura but Baker is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Auton to get the leverage. Auton wants to take a breather but Baker is having none of it. Auton has freed up his trapped foot and advances to mount.
Auton looking for a guillotine from mount but Baker is having none of it. Auton is breathing heavily. Auton looking to finish Baker with some ground and pound. This is bad for Baker!
Auton is in full mount, looking to secure a guillotine but Baker is surviving well by controlling Auton's body position as best he can.
Auton jumps to the side looking to secure the arm triangle�. Ooooh, that looks tight� Baker is gargling but he's managed to escape! Nice work there by Baker and Auton has given up the dominant position trying to land that submission.

 That's two minutes gone in the round. Baker is not in a great position here, taking some shots. Baker takes a big shot right to the temple there but he's taken it well.

Auton is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Baker knows the correct defense though, so he's OK. This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff! Auton trying to control the action but Baker is working from the bottom. Auton works to advance to full mount. Baker defends for a few seconds but eventually he succumbs. Baker wants to hold on but Auton pushes him away. Auton landing strikes from the mount. Auton pausing momentarily but resumes with a couple of decent strikes that do a bit of damage.

Baker is rocked!
Auton has control of Baker's right arm, working for a kimura. It's a bit of a token attempt though and Baker regains control of the situation pretty easily.
Baker is still on wobbly legs! Can Auton finish him? Baker tries to hold on but Auton postures up. Baker seems to have recovered his senses.
 That's three minutes gone in the round. Baker regains half guard. Auton lands with an elbow from half guard - that looked like it hurt. Baker has hold of Auton's hands but Auton slips his arm to the side and lands an elbow. The referee walks around the fighters to get a better view of the action. Auton lands a nice short elbow. Auton is looking to stall here but Baker recovers full guard. Auton stands up over Baker, holding his feet. He dives back in and lands a decent shot to the head. Baker is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far. Auton distracts Baker with his right hand and drops a big elbow with his other arm. Auton cracks Baker with a solid left hand. Baker wants to stand and escape but Auton is having none of it.
 That's four minutes gone in the round. Baker keeping moving, preventing Auton from controlling successfully. Baker is pulling down on Auton's head to control his posture. Auton landing some decent shots from guard. Auton scoring with punches to the head and body. Auton lands a couple of digs. Auton preventing the sweep. Auton is sitting in guard, working some ground and pound. Auton in full guard, throwing the ground and pound. No damage this time. Auton has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission. Auton passes Baker's left leg - he's now in half guard. Ground and pound from Auton.
Auton seems to be looking for submissions.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action. Baker tries to kick Auton off but Auton keeps his base steady and stays in half guard. Baker wants to control but Auton is keeping busy.
Auton is thinking about going for an arm triangle but he can't free his leg.
And that�s the end of the round � the fighters go back to their corners.
David Auton dominated that round. The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.
Auton closes the distance and clinches up with Baker, looking for a takedown. Auton pushes Baker against the cage but Baker circles to the side and manages to break the clinch. Baker circles away from the clinch attempt.
Auton shoots in but no luck this time. A kick lands to the mid section there for Baker. Baker misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out.
Baker moves into the clinch successfully.
Auton trying to stall but Baker improves his position.
Auton stops a takedown attempt from Baker.
Baker is pressed up against the cage. Auton has hold of a leg and is looking to drag Baker down to the mat. Baker avoids the attempt though and has circled away. We're back to striking at a distance. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for David Auton. That's going to take a lot out of him. Auton gets his takedown attempt stuffed easily and Auton takes a counter punch right on the button for his troubles. Baker is looking to clinch but Auton is avoiding it.
Nice straight punches there by Auton. You know Roy Jones Jr respects the hands of Auton. Auton looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Baker is fending him off so far but Auton persists. Nope, Baker circles away and we're back to standing. Baker fails with an attempt to clinch.

and Baker counters with a nice double leg into side control. Auton won't be happy with that. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here. Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Baker decides to stand up, so the ref orders Auton to his feet. Baker misses with a few strikes there.
 That's one minute gone in the round. Auton gets his takedown attempt stuffed easily and Baker counters with a straight right hand.
The fight moves into the clinch position.
Auton has hold of one of Baker's legs. Baker is fighting the takedown attempt but Auton gets the trip and lands the takedown into guard. Auton postures up and lands some nice ground and pound. Auton pushing down on Baker's thigh, trying to pass to half guard. He's managed it... Nice work. Auton is scoring with some nice ground and pound from the dominant position. Baker is looking to escape. Baker is using up a lot of energy trying to get back to his feet. Perhaps he should improve his position first. David Auton overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far. Baker is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though. Baker flails away from the bottom but he's not doing any damage.

 The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up. Auton misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out. Baker will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.
 That's two minutes gone in the round. Auton misses with a takedown attempt - Baker sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.
Baker fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Auton sprawls well initially but Baker persists and gets the takedown into half guard. Baker is tying to control. Auton wants to improve his position but can't escape this time. Auton regains full guard. Nicely done. Auton lands a beautiful switch and he's in full mount! That could spell trouble for Baker! Auton scores with a couple of good head shots there.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd. Auton with a couple of short strikes. Baker really trying hard to get back to half guard here.

Auton has hold of Baker's left arm, perhaps looking for a submission. The two fighters tussle over control of the isolated limb and Baker manages to get his arm back to his side and away from danger.

You get the feeling that Baker really doesn't like being in this position too much.
BOOM! Auton connects with a massive shot to the dome!
Baker tries to buck Auton off but he can't manage it. Baker tries to reverse the position but Auton maintains control. Auton in mount throwing good strikes here, bouncing his opponent's head off the canvas.
Baker can't escape the position.
Auton lands a heavy elbow. Auton tries to control but Baker wriggling away. Auton lands with some vicious ground and pound - can Baker hang on? The referee warns Baker that he has to improve his position here as he takes two more clean shots to the head.
Baker tries to reverse the position but Auton maintains control. Auton unloading with bombs! Baker is hanging on here. He's in a desperate position. Auton landing punches. Auton scores with a couple of good head shots there.

The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action! Baker is in a horrible position here. Auton smacks him with another shot as he tries to escape the position.

Baker really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Auton. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out. Baker wants to control from the top but Auton keeps moving. Baker slows down the pace of the fight, as he sits in guard. Baker must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.
 That's one minute gone in the round. Baker landing with the ground and pound. Both fighters are breathing heavily. Baker slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up. There's a bit of a scramble here and now Auton is on top in guard.

Baker is edging up against the cage. He's using the cage to get back to his feet. Nice work there - the fighters are clinched. Auton drops to a knee looking for a takedown but Baker gets the underhooks and prevents it.
