The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
popai closes the distance and clinches up with Thiago, looking for a takedown. popai pushes Thiago against the cage but Thiago circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.
Thiago misses with a takedown attempt
and popai counters with a low kick, right behind Thiago 's knee.
Thiago thows a body shot but no joy.

popai tries to keep at a distance but Thiago has taken the fight into the clinch.
Thiago prevents a takedown attempt there.
Thiago is pressed up against the cage. popai has hold of a leg and is looking to drag Thiago down to the mat. Thiago avoids the attempt though and has circled away. We're back to striking at a distance.

Thiago shoots in and scores a nice double leg takedown into half guard.
We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake.

Thiago goes for a high kick. It partially lands.
