PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Miguel Aviles (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Brandon Lau (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Miguel Aviles!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Brandon Lau!
The judges for this bout are Wesley Smith, Cecil Peabody and Chris Downing.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Aviles shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Lau's guard.
Aviles trying to control but Lau is working from the bottom.
Aviles wants to pass the guard but Lau is keeping the position.
Aviles wants to control from the top but Lau keeps moving.
Aviles loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry.

Aviles connects with a couple of short punches.
Lau wants to sweep but no luck.
Aviles wants to stand but Lau is controlling his posture from full guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Lau avoiding any damage from the ground and pound.
Lau is controlling Aviles's posture.

Aviles throwing shots from guard but he's hitting more mat than opponent.
Aviles is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Lau has Aviles pulled in close to control his posture.

Lau utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.
Lau tries to clinch there but Aviles circles away.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Aviles is looking to clinch but Lau is avoiding it.
Lau tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Aviles swivels and escapes.
Lau looks gassed!

Aviles is going to have to think about doing something other than just controlling because Lau is managing to avoid having the position dictated to him.

Aviles dodges the punch combination from Lau.
Aviles tries to close the distance and clinch up but Lau swats him away and circles back towards the center.
Aviles throws a head kick that misses.
Aviles tries for a takedown but Lau circles away easily

and Lau counters with a single leg into guard. Aviles didn't expect that.
Lau postures up.
Aviles is trying to hold Lau in close to prevent damage but Lau has managed to pass into half guard.
Lau is just sitting in half guard, waiting for something to happen.

Aviles is trying to control but can't.
Lau stops Aviles from getting back to his feet.
Aviles is trying to control but can't.

Aviles looking for subs from the bottom but Lau mounts him!
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Lau tucks in and makes sure he doesn't lose the dominant position.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Aviles is desperately trying to improve his position but Lau has a good base and remains in mount.

Lau goes for an armbar but he's fallen flat on his backside there and now Aviles is on top in guard.
Aviles won't allow Lau to get back to his feet.

Aviles throwing strikes from guard but Lau blocks nicely.
Lau is trying to keep Aviles in close.
Aviles looking to sit in guard and control but Lau gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.
Lau seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.

Aviles isolates an arm and boxes in a triangle. Lau stacks Aviles on his neck as he steps over and passes to the side. He's now in a much more dominant position where he can look to do some serious damage. Nice move by Lau!
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Brandon Lau showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business. This is the final round!

Lau takes a deep breath and rests his weight momentarily on top of his opponent, to control the position.
Lau tries to pass to full mount but Aviles defends it.

Brandon Lau comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I think Lau has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
