Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Shiko Shubaka (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Michal Kurpinski (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Shiko Shubaka!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Michal Kurpinski!
The judges for this bout are Matti Vanhoillinen, Tarja Halkonen and Anni Minnemäki.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Shubaka scores with a nice takedown into half guard. Let's see what he's got on the ground.

Kurpinski jumps guard but Shubaka stands there with Kurpinski around his waist. Kurpinski gives up and drops back to his feet. We remain in the clinch.

Shubaka drops back, looking for a kneebar! Kurpinski looks panicked! The fighters roll across the mat, one looking to finish, one looking to escape. Kurpinski looks to have wriggled free... Yes, he's got his leg free and he's dived into side control! Good work there from Kurpinski!

Shubaka sneaks a leg back under and regains half guard and is working straight away to try and get back to guard. He hasn't managed just yet though.

Shubaka shoots in with a lovely double leg takedown. Kurpinski manages to land in full guard to minimise the damage.

Shubaka is holding a leg here, probably looking for an ankle lock - he drops back and goes for it! Kurpinski is in trouble! Is it all over??? No! Kurpinski has escaped and now he's on top!

Shubaka escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Kurpinski gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Kurpinski is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there.

Kurpinski working some ground and pound from close in. He's looking to maintain this position and strike for a while by the looks of things... although he'll probably advance to full mount in a minute now I've said that.

The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action. This is the final round!


Kurpinski leaves Shubaka with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.

Shubaka is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Kurpinski is just riding it out for now. Shubaka eventually gives up the hold.

Well Shubaka has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
