The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Michaels swinging wilding here.
Michaels throws a nice looking combination but Smith bobs and weaves to avoid any damage.
Smith throws the kick towards the body but Michaels avoids it.
Nice sprawl there from Smith as Michaels shoots in.
Smith closes the distance and clinches up with Michaels, looking for a takedown. Smith pushes Michaels against the cage but Michaels circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.

and Michaels counters by moving into the clinch. Good anticipation by Michaels.
Smith jumps into guard, dragging Michaels to the mat.
Smith wants to control here, rather than go for any submissions from the bottom. At least for now.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Smith thows some rabbit punches from the bottom but they don't do any damage.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fight is doing enough on the ground.
Michaels misses with a takedown
and Smith counters with a shoot takedown into half guard.
Smith looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.

Michaels slips a foot under and gets full guard. Nice work.
Smith looks gassed!
Michaels is working for submissions here. He's thrown up his legs looking for a tringle but Smith frees his head nicely. Oh but Michaels has switched to an armbar! Smith is tapping furiously! Lovely submission there!
