PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Vern Kessel (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Fedor Pain (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Kessel comes to the cage accompanied by This Fire Burns. On his way into the cage it seems that Vern Kessel has been attacked by a crazed fan! It looks like it might have been the just bleed guy! Luckily Vern Kessel seems to be OK! I thought that lunatic was in prison!?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Fedor Pain!
The judges for this bout are Cecil Peabody, Chris Downing and Robert Twigg.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Pain drives through with a really nice takedown into side control.
Pain misses with a strike but at least he's keeping busy, looking to cause some damage - that will still help him when it comes to the judges scorecards.

Kessel tries to get back to half guard but can't.
Pain wants to lay and pray for a moment but Kessel keeps working.
Kessel wants to control but Pain postures up.
Pain has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.
Pain works a knee to the body and follows up with a nice elbow to the head.

Pain thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead.

Pain is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Kessel knows the correct defense though, so he's OK.

Fedor Pain seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Kessel lands a really nice looking cross but Pain seems unphased.

Pain forces Kessel back against the cage and clinches.
Pain goes for a body shot but it's blocked.
Pain is trying to work for a single leg takedown but Kessel pulls him back up using the underhooks.
Kessel wants to break free but Pain has control.

Pain works for the underhooks and manages to get a trip takedown into guard.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.
Pain shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Kessel but Kessel pushes him off and we're back to square one.
Vern Kessel has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Fedor Pain.

Pain will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.
Pain uses decent footwork to sidestep a right hand from Kessel.

The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

Poor strikes thrown by Pain there. More accuracy and less frantic strikes would help!

Kessel is desperately trying to get back to half guard.

Pain lands with some strikes.
Kessel is really trying hard to get back to his feet.
Pain prevents Kessel from getting the reversal.
Pain won't let Kessel get back to his feet... He wants to keep the fight where it is for now.

The crowd hopeful of a finish here - Pain's supporters are on their feet, screaming for him to go for the rear naked choke.
You can see the frustration on Kessel's face… He knows he is in trouble unless he improves his position sooner rather than later.

Even with his hooks in, Pain manages to miss with strikes from the back.
Pain is looking to control Kessel but Kessel is wriggling around and keeping busy.
Kessel trying to control the action but Pain just sinks the hooks in.

Kessel won't enjoy being in this position. Pain looking for the choke. Oh... he's slipped the arm under the neck - Kessel is tapping - it's over boys! Pain picks up the submission victory!
