PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Zgwina Toure (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Raphael Ottoni (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). I'm sure you'll be fascinated to know that I was talking to some pointless Z list celebrity before the fight and he thought that Raphael Ottoni was going to win. Let's see if he was right.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Zgwina Toure!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Raphael Ottoni!
The judges for this bout are Luis Engracia, Matheus Silva and Paulo Santos.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Toure drops down and drives through with a powerful takedown into guard.
Ottoni pulls Toure in close to his closed guard and prevents Toure from doing any damage or advancing position.
Toure has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.
Ottoni is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.

Toure postures up as if he's going to throw some strikes but drops back for an ankle! Ottoni is in big trouble! He looks ready to tap! But no, he's escaped and dives on top of Toure, into his guard.

Toure has an active guard here but Ottoni has managed to pass into half guard.
Ottoni trying to control the action but Toure is working from the bottom.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
Toure keeping his head moving to avoid the ground and pound.
Ottoni seems to be taking a bit of a break to think of his next move. He lands a short punch in the meantime.

Ottoni is trying to work for a kimura. This could be trouble! No, Toure has managed to free his arm - good work.
Ottoni is trying to control. Toure wants to improve his position but can't escape this time.
Ottoni lands strikes from half guard.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
Ottoni wants to take a breather but Toure is having none of it.
Ottoni is stalling here. Toure is in no mood to hang around though. He's locked up a kimura from the bottom! Ottoni seems to be keeping calm but he's forced to roll out of the hold and Toure has ended up in side control on the top. Nice work.

Ottoni regains half guard.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Ottoni slips a foot under and gets full guard. Nice work.

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Raphael Ottoni dominated that round.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.

and Toure counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground.
Toure postures up.

The ref stands the fighters back up, due to lack of action by Raphael Ottoni.
Toure shoots in looking for a takedown. Ottoni tries to sprawl out of it but Toure keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Ottoni manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.

Ottoni takes the fight into the clinch.
Ottoni drops down for a takedown but doesn't get it.
Toure prevents the takedown attempt.
Zgwina Toure has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Raphael Ottoni.
Ottoni can't get the takedown.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Ottoni is pressed up against the cage. Toure has hold of a leg and is looking to drag Ottoni down to the mat. Ottoni avoids the attempt though and has circled away. We're back to striking at a distance.
Toure fails miserably with a takedown attempt.
Toure rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Ottoni moves out of range and avoids them all easily.
Zgwina Toure is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Ottoni shoots for a double leg takedown but Toure sprawls well. He's pushed Ottoni's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.
A telegraphed takedown attempt from Ottoni is defended easily by Toure.

Ottoni tries to keep at a distance but Toure has taken the fight into the clinch.
Ottoni lands a hook to the body. It's hard to tell if that hurt Toure or not.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Ottoni lands with a quick shot inside that doesn't really do much damage.
Ottoni has Toure pressed up against the cage and is working for takedown. Toure manages to improve position though and keeps the fight standing.

Ottoni has managed to pull guard. Let's see whether he can work an aggressive guard. It will also be interesting to see what tactics Toure uses from the top position.

Toure drops back looking for a heel hook - he quickly realises he's not going to get it but Ottoni manages to dive on top of him before he can escape and now Toure has Ottoni in his guard.

Ottoni stands up from Toure's guard - Ottoni perhaps looking for a knockout.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Ottoni shoots in and drives through. Toure sprawls well.
Ottoni tries to close the distance and clinch up but Toure swats him away and circles back towards the center.
Ottoni goes for a high kick. It partially lands.
Toure swats away the attempt to clinch by Ottoni.

Ottoni changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Toure looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.
Ottoni is trying to move to mount but Toure reverses beautifully and ends up in Ottoni's guard.

That's four minutes gone in the round.

Toure got a little sloppy there for a moment and Ottoni has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Toure has managed to get both his arms back between Ottoni's legs - danger averted.

Toure drops back looking for a heel hook - he quickly realises he's not going to get it but Ottoni manages to dive on top of him before he can escape and now Toure has Ottoni in his guard.
Ottoni is just sitting in guard, looking to avoid any submissions.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close second round but Raphael Ottoni will probably get the nod - 10:9.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action. This is the final round!



Ottoni throws the overhand right but ducks down into a quick takedown attempt. Toure was covering up waiting for the punch and Ottoni finishes the takedown easily into guard.

Ottoni is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control.
Ottoni slips effortlessly into side control - very nice.

Ottoni is staying tight to Toure's torso, preventing him from escaping.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Ottoni trying to control the action but Toure is working from the bottom.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.

The ref stands the fighters back up, due to lack of action by Raphael Ottoni.
Toure misses with a takedown

and Ottoni moves into the clinch.
Toure's head jolts backwards as he takes an uppercut right on the button!
Ottoni is stalling here.
Ottoni tries to score a body lock takedown but Toure shows good agility there to stay on his feet.

Ottoni wants the takedown. Toure is fighting it off but Ottoni persists and manages to bring the fight to the ground, ending up in Toure's guard against the cage.

Toure escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Ottoni gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.
Ottoni throws a big right hand that misses.

That's four minutes gone in the round.

Ottoni stands, ready to strike. The ref makes him back up and allows Toure to get to his feet.
Ottoni fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Toure avoids it really well and circles away.

and Toure counters nicely by changing levels and landing a hook to the body.
Ottoni fails with the takedown
enabling Toure to counter with a crisp jab.
Zgwina Toure has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Raphael Ottoni is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.
Zgwina Toure has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Raphael Ottoni.
Ottoni shoots in for a double leg but Toure sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy.
Ottoni takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.

Raphael Ottoni comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I've got Ottoni winning every round here. Surely the decision will go his way and he'll pick up a well deserved decision victory. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
