PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a super heavyweight MMA rules bout between Andre Banks (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Bogie McGill (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Banks comes to the cage accompanied by Kanye West-So Appalled. I'm sure you'll be fascinated to know that I was talking to some pointless Z list celebrity before the fight and he thought that Bogie McGill was going to win. Let's see if he was right.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the super heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 12 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Andre Banks!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 8 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Bogie McGill!
The judges for this bout are Yuuki Gou, Sosuke Kotani and Shigeki Sano.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Banks darts in and lands a nice takedown into half guard.

Banks is trying to work for a kimura. This could be trouble! No, McGill has managed to free his arm - good work.
McGill is not content to let Banks control the position.
Banks prevents McGill from improving his position.

Banks is trying to work for a kimura but McGill is defending well.
Banks seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but McGill does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.

Banks is looking for a kimura but he's never going to get it from there.
McGill is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
McGill trying to control here.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fighter is doing enough on the ground.

McGill gets taken down but at least he's managed to land in guard.
McGill keeping moving, preventing Banks from controlling successfully.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up, due to lack of activity on the part of Andre Banks.
The fight stays on the outside here - McGill looks like he's thinking about clinching though.

Banks is trying to drag McGill to the mat but McGill just about manages to keep his footing. He used the cage to his advantage there.

Banks gets control of McGill's arms and successfully pulls guard. Banks will no doubt be looking for submissions off his back.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
McGill wants to control from the top but Banks keeps moving.
Banks is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.
Banks prevents McGill from standing back up.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.

Banks is trying to work for a kimura. This could be trouble! No, McGill has managed to free his arm - good work.
Banks wants to lay and pray for a moment but McGill keeps working.
Banks looking to pass the half guard. Not this time.
McGill flails away from the bottom but he's not doing any damage.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Banks is pressing down on McGill's thigh, looking to free his foot. McGill is holding on for now.

Banks misses the jab.

McGill drives through with a takedown into guard.
Banks is doing well to control the posture of his opponent and prevent any damage.
McGill is looking to advance position but Banks has hit a scissor sweep - now he's on top in mount!
Banks can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as McGill is looking to escape.

Banks goes for an armbar but he's not got it… McGill turns into him and now he's in Banks's guard.
Banks has McGill pulled in close to control his posture.

Banks looking for submissions off his back, moving his hips, looking for an opening.

McGill postures up as if he's going to throw some strikes but drops back for an ankle! Banks is in big trouble! He looks ready to tap! But no, he's escaped and dives on top of McGill, into his guard.
McGill trying to punch from his back but it's not doing any damage.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
McGill manages to land a sweep and now he's in mount on top!
Banks is working to get back to half guard.
Banks tries to lock up and control but McGill gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away.
Banks tries to reverse the position but McGill maintains control.

McGill swings around for an armbar but it's a sloppy attempt and Banks is now in McGill's guard. A big mistake from McGill there, giving up the dominant position!
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
McGill keeping moving, preventing Banks from controlling successfully.

McGill striking off his back but it's not causing Banks any problems.
McGill is trying to control the position from the bottom.
Banks stopping the sweep attempt from McGill.
Banks trying to control the position from guard on top but McGill is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Banks loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry.
McGill lands a beautiful switch and he's in full mount! That could spell trouble for Banks!

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.
Banks takes a big shot to the head but keeps on trying to improve his position.
McGill misses with a head shot.
McGill wants to stand but Banks is holding on to him, trying to stop him posturing up.

McGill jumps to the side looking to secure the arm triangle…. Ooooh, that looks tight… Banks is gargling but he's managed to escape! Nice work there by Banks and McGill has given up the dominant position trying to land that submission.
Banks gets one leg under and gets the fight to half guard.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
The fighters are battling for position here. Banks manages to regain full guard. Nice work.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close second round but Bogie McGill will probably get the nod - 10:9.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business. Let's hear some noise people - this is the final round!

McGill slaps away a takedown attempt from Banks, before circling back to the center of the mat.
Banks pulls out of a head kick attempt.

and Banks finishes the little exchange by landing a big kick to the body.

McGill uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by Banks.

Banks looking to ground and pound but McGill is blocking nicely.

Banks is going oldschool here, as he tries to force McGill to tap using a forearm choke. This isn't 1993 though, so McGill shrugs it off.

Banks goes for an armbar but McGill turns quickly into his guard - lovely anticipation from McGill.
McGill in full guard, throwing the ground and pound. No damage this time.
Banks looking to sweep using the butterfly guard but McGill puts pay to that idea as he passes nicely into half guard.
Banks wants to get back to full guard.

Banks is looking to sinch up a guillotine here but McGill pulls his head out easily.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Banks regains full guard, whilst avoiding punches from McGill.
Banks controls McGill momentarily but McGill frees himself.
Banks keeping moving, preventing McGill from controlling successfully.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
McGill avoids a punch combination nicely.
Banks throws a hook but McGill blocks it.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Banks misses with a takedown

and McGill counters with a takedown into side control.
Banks avoids any damage from the ground and pound of McGill.

McGill looking for an arm triangle but it's way too loose to do anything.
You can see the frustration on Banks's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.

McGill swings around for an armbar but Banks sees it coming a mile off and turns beautifully into McGill's guard.
Banks seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
McGill wants to sweep here but Banks controlling him for the moment.
Banks controls the pace of the fight for a moment.
Banks is working McGill over from the guard. He should look to pass the guard and do a little more damage with these strikes.
McGill is trying to control the position but Banks postures up.
Andre Banks overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Banks pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. McGill is keeping the position for now.

Banks has gone for a leg lock! McGill slips out almost immediately though and dives into Banks's guard.

And that's the end of the fight!
I would just about give that final round to Bogie McGill.
I think McGill has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
