Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Jim Cowen (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Shane Carter (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Both fighters look fresh as a daisy as they make their way towards the cage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 7 - 6 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Jim Cowen!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Shane Carter!
The judges for this bout are Robert Douchet, Yves DeLean and Ian Loll.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Carter swings for the body but Cowen moves out of range.
Carter looks to score with a jab to the body but Cowen is just out of range.
Cowen keeping a good distance there, avoiding the body shot.
Cowen really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.
Cowen tries to clinch but Carter is having none of it.

Carter fakes a head shot and lands one to the body.
Carter looks to land a combination. Cowen sees it coming but can only parry a couple of the shots.

Carter avoids the clinch attempt nicely.
Cowen takes a solid shot to the body. That one hurt him but he's trying not to show it.
Cowen wants to clinch up but Carter keeps it at a distance.
Carter stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Carter wants it to stay on the feet.
Cowen is looking to take this fight into the clinch.

Carter is throwing a lot of body shots here, looking to wear down Cowen rather than just go for the knockout.
Cowen uses good head movement to avoid the hook from Carter.

Carter looks to score with a jab to the body but Cowen is just out of range.

Cowen bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.

Cowen decides to stand up, so the ref orders Carter to his feet.

Carter thows a body shot but no joy.
Shane Carter seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Carter misses with a body shot. Nice footwork from Cowen.
Cowen avoids a punch combination nicely.
Carter misses with a series of wild punches.
Carter throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.

Cowen changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Carter looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.

Carter tries to improve position but can't.

Cowen stands up and beckons Carter to his feet.
Cowen tries to clinch there but Carter circles away.
A nice combination there by Carter.
Cowen keeping a good distance there, avoiding the body shot.
Carter misses with a wild combination.
A big right from Cowen misses.
Carter connects with a slap. Keep your fist closed son.
Carter takes a swing at Cowen's ribcage but misses.
A looping hook to the body misses from Carter. Cowen does a little dance to reset his feet.
The fight stays on the outside here - Cowen looks like he's thinking about clinching though.

Cowen has closed the distance and engaged Carter in a clinch.
Cowen throws a hook to the body. More of an arm punch but it's all scoring with the judges.

Cowen is trying to trip Carter. He has hold of a leg but Carter is hopping around, keeping his balance for the moment. Cowen persists though and gets the takedown into guard.

Cowen stands up and waves to Carter to follow him.

Cowen changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Carter looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.
Cowen has knee on belly and now moves to full mount! Trouble for Carter!

Carter wants to hold on but Cowen pushes him away.

Carter regains half guard.
Carter is pressing down on Cowen's left leg trying to get back to full guard. He's managed it.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Carter is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Cowen defends well.
Carter looks gassed!

Carter looking to sweep here. No luck so far.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Cowen has decided he wants to stand but the closed guard of Carter is proving hard to escape from.

Carter is working an open guard so Cowen takes the opportunity to get back to his feet.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.


Cowen doesn't react quick enough there as he takes a shot to the body.

Carter fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Cowen manages to avoid it.

Cowen has Carter pressed up against the cage. He's trying to work for a single leg takedown. Cowen pulls back from the cage and twists to the side, sending Carter tumbling to the mat - Cowen dives into Carter's guard.
Cowen has decided he wants to stand but the closed guard of Carter is proving hard to escape from.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.

Cowen darts in and clinches Carter up against the cage.
Carter takes a shot to the head.

Carter tries to pull guard but can't drag his opponent to the mat. Cowen just stands there and leans against the cage.
A head punch on the inside from Carter fails to land.

Cowen lands a body shot in the clinch.
Carter is breathing heavily.
Carter tries to pull guard but Cowen won't allow it.
Cowen lands a damaging elbow.
Cowen lands a shot to the body.

Cowen breaks from the clinch.
Cowen wants to clinch.

Cowen stands up.
Cowen is looking to clinch but Carter is avoiding it.
Carter misses with a jab, cross combination.

and Carter counters with a left and a right that stings Cowen.
Carter jabs away that one connects to the head of his opponent.
Cowen moves in looking to clinch but Carter pushes him off.
Carter circles away from the clinch attempt
and Carter counters with a left and a right that stings Cowen.
Carter comes forward and lands a shot to the body, then darts back out of range.

Nice sprawl there from Carter as Cowen shoots in.
Cowen is looking to clinch but Carter is avoiding it.
Carter throws a big shot that misses.

and Cowen counters with a nice double leg into side control. Carter won't be happy with that.

Cowen thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead.
Carter tries to buck Cowen off but Cowen is having none of it.
Cowen advances to mount.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Cowen can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Carter is looking to escape.
Cowen is going to have to think about doing something other than just controlling because Carter is managing to avoid having the position dictated to him.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Jim Cowen dominated that second round.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action. This is the final round!


Carter digs a good body shot into Cowen's ribs.

Cowen has dropped down and is working for a takedown. Carter is trying to keep an underhook but Cowen manages to get the takedown into half guard.
Carter is looking to control Cowen's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Carter avoid being mounted?

Cowen decides he's had enough of the ground and stands up.

Cowen seems content to maintain position for now, rather than mounting any offense.
Cowen tries to stand but his arm is trapped.
Cowen tries to pass to full mount but Carter defends it.
Cowen moves into full mount! Carter won't be happy about that!
Carter gets back to half guard.
Cowen content to control rather than advance.
Carter wants to improve his position but Cowen is controlling well.

Carter is persisting with the attempt to improve his position.
Cowen tries to stand but can't do so whilst Carter controls his leg.

Carter is staying active underneath Cowen, who seems content to just control the action from this position.
Cowen perhaps working for something from half guard, or maybe not. It looks like he's just sitting there.

Cowen tries to stand but his arm is trapped.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.
Carter darts in and out, connecting with a jab.
Carter cracks a nice hook into Cowen's ribs.

Cowen rushes Carter and pushes him back against the cage in a clinch.
Cowen misses with the head strike.
Cowen effectively controlling the action here.
Cowen wants to stall.
Come on Cowen - let's have some action - none of this stalling nonsense.
Cowen throws a blind hook that connects with the side of Carters head.
A body shot lands from Cowen.
Carter fails to pull guard.

Carter is fighting off a takedown attempt but Cowen is just too persistent for him and manages to trip Carter to the mat. Carter regains guard as soon as the fighters hit the mat.

Carter is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.

Carter has managed to work for a loose triangle. I think Cowen should be able to defend this one pretty easily though. Oh, Carter has tightened it up now! Cowen should have reacted faster there - he's in big trouble and yes, he's tapped out! This one is all over!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:20 of round 3, we have a winner by way of Submission (Triangle). Shane Carter!
