PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Eric Draven (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Joe Riggs (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Riggs shoots in looking for a takedown. Draven tries to sprawl out of it but Riggs keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Draven manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.
Riggs takes a punch right to his stomach. That took the wind out of him momentarily.
Riggs fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Draven avoids it really well and circles away.

Draven shoots in with a lovely double leg takedown. Riggs manages to land in full guard to minimise the damage.

Draven postures up and scores with a shot to the body and a follow up elbow to the head.
Draven looking to control the position here, rather than advance.
Riggs keeping moving, preventing Draven from controlling successfully.

Riggs tries to land a sweep but no joy.
Riggs keeping full guard, as Draven tries to pass.
Draven in full guard, throwing the ground and pound. No damage this time.
Riggs bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Draven's guard.
Riggs won't allow Draven to sweep him here.
Riggs trying to control but Draven is working from the bottom.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
Riggs tries to free his leg and advance position but Draven is retaining full guard.
Riggs trying to control the position from guard on top but Draven is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Riggs wants to stand but Draven is controlling his posture from full guard.
Draven has a closed guard, preventing anything of note from happening. Perhaps he's looking to stall.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Draven tries to clinch up but Riggs circles away and keeps his distance.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Draven fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Riggs avoids it really well and circles away.
Riggs fails to land the takedown.
Eric Draven has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Joe Riggs.
Draven's corner calls for a 1,2 combination and Draven duly obliges.
No luck for Riggs with that takedown attempt.
Riggs looks gassed!
Draven throws a body kick that sends a sickening thudding noise reverberating around the arena.

Draven looking to hit a scissor sweep but Riggs is one step ahead there.
Draven is working hard here to advance position.
Draven manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Riggs manages to get himself to full guard.
The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.

Draven with a poor takedown

and Riggs counters with a takedown into full mount! That could mean trouble for Draven!
Riggs sends his fist crashing into the mat - the crowd let out a collective ooooooh. Let's hope he's not broken it!
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Riggs is looking to secure an arm. He's managed it! He's pivoting for an armbar - that looks tight! But Draven has managed to get out of it and now he's in a dominant position. Nice work from Draven!
Draven not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up.
Draven wants to control from the top but Riggs keeps moving.
Riggs wants to sweep but no luck.
Draven wants to stand but Riggs is controlling his posture from full guard.

Draven is in close to Riggs's body, working some short punches and elbows.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Riggs keeping moving, preventing Draven from controlling successfully.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fighter is doing enough on the ground.

Draven shoots in for a takedown and gets it.
Draven with a momentary lay and pray from half guard.

Riggs wants to get back to full guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Riggs wants to control but Draven is keeping busy and won't allow it.

Draven landing with strikes to the body and head, softening up his opponent.
Draven seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Riggs does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.

Draven is going to have to think about doing something other than just controlling because Riggs is managing to avoid having the position dictated to him.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.

and Draven counters with a takedown into full mount! That could mean trouble for Riggs!

Draven fakes a shot to the body and cracks his opponent in the head. Nice ground and pound there!

Riggs tries to reverse the position but Draven maintains control.

Draven throws some shoulder strikes here and then postures up. Oh, he's gone for an armbar! Riggs has his hands clasped together but Draven breaks the hold and Riggs is forced to tap! This one is aaaaaaaaaaall over! That was lightning fast by Draven!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:59 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Armbar). Eric Draven!
