Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Kenji Nakamura (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Kid Koala (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). The crowd giving both fighters a great reception on their way into the arena. That's good to see.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Kenji Nakamura!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 8 - 10 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Kid Koala!
The judges for this bout are Donatello Bradman, Hugh Johnson and Bruno Hogan.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Nakamura changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Koala tries to avoid it but Nakamura manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Koala to the ground. Koala escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
A left and a right from Koala both land. Nice combination.
Koala throws a combination but it was largely blocked by Nakamura.
Koala throws a combination but comes up with nothing but fresh air.
Koala will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.
Nakamura will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.
Koala throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.
Koala fails to land with the punch combination there - jab, cross, hook, miss, miss, miss.
Nakamura shoots in but no luck this time.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Kenji Nakamura. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Koala lands a jab to Nakamura's midsection.

Koala throws a wild combination but nothing lands.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Nakamura trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.
Nakamura is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control.
Nakamura trying to control the position from guard on top but Koala is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Nakamura stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Koala swivels though and keeps the full guard.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Koala uses good footwork to get in and out and land a nice right hand before Nakamura has time to react.
Nakamura fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Koala avoids it really well and circles away.
Nakamura shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Koala but Koala pushes him off and we're back to square one.
Nakamura fails miserably with a takedown attempt.

Nakamura throws the overhand right but ducks down into a quick takedown attempt. Koala was covering up waiting for the punch and Nakamura finishes the takedown easily into guard.

Nakamura postures up as if he's going to throw some strikes but drops back for an ankle! Koala is in big trouble! He looks ready to tap! But no, he's escaped and dives on top of Nakamura, into his guard.

Nakamura is trying to control the position from the bottom.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Kid Koala dominated that round.
Well, the break between rounds is over. Let's get back to the scrappin!


Koala looks to score with a combo but nothing lands.
Koala fails to land with the punch combination there - jab, cross, hook, miss, miss, miss.
Nakamura fails with a takedown attempt.
Koala works over Nakamura's head and body with a nice combination.
No luck for Nakamura with that takedown attempt.
Koala swinging wildly here.
Nakamura throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.

Nakamura closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.

Nakamura wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Koala, who protects the arm well.
Nakamura wants to control but Koala is keeping him busy.
Koala is breathing heavily.

Nakamura tries for a kimura. Not really close to a finish though.
Koala prevents Nakamura from improving position.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Koala is trying to escape the position but Nakamura is controlling the position.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Nakamura trying to control the position but Koala is working away.

Nakamura decides to take the fight back to the feet.
Koala misses with a jab and misses with a cross straight after too.

Koala misses with an uppercut. Nakamura saw that one coming.
Kenji Nakamura is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Nakamura shoots for a double leg takedown but Koala sprawls well. He's pushed Nakamura's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Kenji Nakamura. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Koala tries to bum rush Nakamura with a series of wild strikes but Nakamura uses good footwork to avoid the assault.
Koala throws a nice looking combination but Nakamura bobs and weaves to avoid any damage.
Nakamura is looking to take this fight into the clinch.
Nakamura dodges the punch combination from Koala.

Nakamura bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.
Nakamura is staying tight to Koala's torso, preventing him from escaping.
Nakamura throwing shots but missing, from side control.
Koala really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Nakamura. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

Nakamura has hold of Koala's arm. He's looking for a kimura. Koala seems comfortable defending it but Nakamura has shifted his position slighty and is cranking on the arm! Koala is real pain and he's forced to tap out! Koala is disgusted with himself for not defending it better but Nakamura couldn't care less - he's delighted!
