Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Steve Jones (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Frank Potter (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Steve Jones has a significant reach advantage - let's see if he can make it count.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 9 - 0, fighting out of London, Steve Jones!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 1 - 0, fighting out of London, Frank Potter!
The judges for this bout are James Atkins, Paul Tew and Colin Fotheringham.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Jones decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard.
Potter trying to control from the bottom.
Jones wants to free his trapped foot but Potter is holding on for dear life with his legs.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Jones slows the pace down in half guard.
Jones wants to control but Potter is keeping him busy.
Potter tries to get to full guard but Jones has control of the leg.
Potter is persisting with the attempt to improve his position.
Still in half guard, Jones seems content to control.

Jones is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Potter is just riding it out for now. Jones eventually gives up the hold.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fighter is doing enough on the ground.
Potter tries to close the distance and clinch but Jones swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.
Jones really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Potter tries a head kick but it misses.
Potter doesn't manage to clinch there - Jones circles away.

Jones shoots in and scores a nice double leg takedown into half guard.
Potter has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Jones is working away from the top position though.
Potter tries to roll over but Jones keeps him under control.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Jones is working hard to pass the guard. He's done it - he's now in full mount! Trouble for Potter!
Potter prevents Jones from taking his back.
Jones takes his opponent's back. Perhaps a chance to lock up a rear naked choke here.
Potter staying busy and making it hard for Jones to control.
Jones slows the pace down here. Having a little breather whilst he's in a dominant position, looking to rest and regain some energy, ready to go for the finish.
Jones has controlled the position for a good 20 seconds, which will no doubt be starting to frustrate his opponent.
Jones controlling well, preventing Potter from escaping the position.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Jones slows the pace down here. Having a little breather whilst he's in a dominant position, looking to rest and regain some energy, ready to go for the finish.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Jones has his hand under the chin of his opponent looking for the choke. He's nearly got it! This one could be all over! But no, Potter has freed his hand and lives to survive another… well, another couple of seconds at least!
Jones is breathing heavily.
Jones really has the hooks in deep now - there seems like no escape for Potter.
The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
Potter tries to escape the position - he's now mounted. Is that better or worse? Hard to tell!
Jones takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.

The referee stands the fighters back up. Steve Jones just wasn't active enough from the dominant position.

Potter fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Jones sprawls well initially but Potter persists and gets the takedown into half guard.
Jones works his way to full guard. Good work.
Potter postures up.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Jones looking to sweep here. No luck so far.
Potter is sitting in guard, working some ground and pound.
Potter postures up.
Potter trying to control but Jones is working from the bottom.
Potter slips nicely into half guard.
Potter performing his best blanket impression for a moment.
Jones is holding on to half guard well.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That's time! Jones's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight.


Potter with a poor takedown

and Jones decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Potter's guard.
Potter controls Jones momentarily but Jones frees himself.
Jones is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.
Potter wants to stand but Jones is controlling the position.
Jones is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control.

Jones drops back looking for a leg! Potter is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Potter manages to kick Jones off! Jones jumps back into Potter's guard.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Jones stays in close to Potter's body and controls the position.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Potter keeping moving, preventing Jones from controlling successfully.
Jones slips effortlessly into side control - very nice.
Potter tries to buck Jones off but Jones is having none of it.
Jones remains in side control and seems content to stay there. It's a versatile position from which he can work both strikes and submissions, whilst maintaining that control, so maybe he'll sit here for a while.

The referee stands the fighters back up. Steve Jones just wasn't active enough from the dominant position.
Potter is looking to clinch.
Potter misses with a takedown attempt

so Jones counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Potter can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Jones controls the pace.
Jones will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.

Jones drops back for a leg here. A bit of a high risk move... He's looking for a kneebar by the looks of things. Now both of them are looking for submissions. Jones seems to have locked his on tight now - Potter screams in pain and taps out furiously! It certainly was a high risk move but it's paid off for Jones, as he picks up the win!
