PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a super heavyweight MMA rules bout between George Kalir (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and John Bilko (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). John Bilko told me before the fight that he's been watching a lot of DVDs so let's see if that helps him in this one! I can't wait to find out!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the super heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 7 - 3 - 0, fighting out of New York, George Kalir!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 6 - 3 - 0, fighting out of New York, John Bilko!
The judges for this bout are Reed Andrews, Anthony Taglia and Joseph Jones.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Bilko paws at his opponent with the jab and then lunges in with a straight, right on the button.

Bilko looking to shoot here. He's gone for it and he's landed a takedown into mount! Oh, that's bad for Kalir!
Kalir keeping his composure momentarily, calmly looking to get back to half guard.
Bilko controlling the pace for now.
Bilko postures up and cracks his opponent a couple of times before moving back into close ground control. Kalir looks a forlorn figure.

Bilko takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.

Despite being in the dominant position, John Bilko just isn't active enough and the referee decides to stand the fighters back up.

Kalir wants to lay and pray for a moment but Bilko keeps working.

Kalir drops back looking for a heel hook - he quickly realises he's not going to get it but Bilko manages to dive on top of him before he can escape and now Kalir has Bilko in his guard.

Kalir tries to strike but it doesn't land.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!



Bilko shoots in looking for a single leg takedown. Kalir is trying to defend but Bilko finishes it well and ends up in half guard. Let's see if he can advance position further.
Bilko looks over to his corner - he wants some instructions but his corner are not responding.
Kalir gets full guard.

Kalir has his foot on Bilko's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Bilko works his way back into a safe position though.

Neither fighter is being very active at the moment, with Bilko in particular looking to stall.
Let's hope that Bilko has the urge to step up the pace any second now because for the last 15 or 20 seconds he's just been holding on tight.

John Bilko showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action. Let's hear some noise people - this is the final round!

Bilko moves into range and clinches up with Kalir.

Bilko closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard.
Bilko thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Kalir's head.

Kalir is looking to sinch up a triangle. Bilko throws the leg off to one side though and gets in tight to Kalir's body to avoid the submission. Kalir has instead reached around Bilko's neck and now has a guillotine! Oh, this is biiiig trouble! Kalir arches his back and squeezes and forces the tap from his hapless opponent.
