PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Leo Prid (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Steve Austin (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Leo Prid!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Steve Austin!
The judges for this bout are Dmitry Maklakov, Illya Tyunina and Aleksei Zolotukhin.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Prid closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Prid lands in his opponent's guard.
Prid stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Austin swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Austin looking for a sweep. Not yet Austin, not yet.
Prid wants to control from the top but Austin keeps moving.
Prid working in close now, lands a nice elbow to the side of Austin's head.

Austin keeping full guard, as Prid tries to pass.
Austin wants to stand and escape but Prid is having none of it.
Prid controls the pace of the fight for a moment.
Austin is avoiding any damage by keeping wrist control.
Austin wants to sweep but no luck.
A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Prid accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Prid trying to control but Austin is working from the bottom.

Prid stands up and waves to Austin to follow him.
Prid will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.
Prid wants to clinch up but Austin keeps it at a distance.
Austin doesn't succeed with the takedown

and Prid counters with a nice double leg into half guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Austin makes some distance and scrambles quickly back to his feet. Nice work!
Prid connects with a good right hand that stumbles Austin. Austin circles away out of range and recomposes himself.
Austin fails with the takedown

and Prid counters with a shoot takedown. Austin fights it but they end up in guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Austin looks gassed!

Prid stops Austin from standing up.
Prid passes into half guard.
Ground and pound from Prid.
Prid will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.
Prid is trying to control the action in half guard but Austin is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard.

Prid is working for a kimura but Austin is defending it quite comfortably.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Prid thows a huge punch but Austin dodges it nicely.
Austin is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
Prid is keen to just control but Austin is a slippery customer.

Prid postures up and decides to stand up, from the half guard. The ref calls for Austin to stand up.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Prid shoots in with a lovely double leg takedown. Austin manages to land in full guard to minimise the damage.
Prid trying to control but Austin is working from the bottom.
Austin pulls Prid in close to prevent any damage.
Prid looking to sit in guard and control but Austin gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.
Austin with a couple of shots to the head there. Not particularly brutal.

Austin looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Prid with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position.

Prid has hold of Austin's hands but Austin slips his arm to the side and lands an elbow.
Prid flails away from the bottom but he's not doing any damage.

Steve Austin showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.

Prid throws a leg kick but Austin checks it.

Austin closes the distance and presses his opponent up against the cage.
Prid has a body lock and is looking for a takedown. Austin is bouncing around trying to prevent the takedown and somehow he has indeed managed to stay on his feet.
Good anti-grappling being displayed by Austin as Prid tries to tie him up.
Austin lands a shoulder strike that jolts his opponent's head backwards.

Austin escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Leo Prid is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.

and Austin counters by moving into the clinch. Good anticipation by Austin.
Austin is pushing Prid up against the cage, for a bit of lean and pray action. Action being used the in the loosest possible sense of the word.
A short right hand to the side of the head by Austin.
Austin lands an elbow just above Prid 's eye.


It looks like Leo Prid has been cut.
Austin lands a left hand that snaps the head of Prid backwards.
Austin lands with a light punch inside.

Austin content to slow the pace in the clinch.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.
Prid tries to break free but Austin pushes him back against the cage.

Prid tries to pull guard but Austin holds him up against the cage and eventually Prid drops back down to his feet.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fighter is doing enough on the ground.

Austin closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.
