PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Joe Byren (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Terrance Pingshaw (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Pingshaw has chosen Heart of a Champion as his entrance music, which hasn't gone down very well with the crowd. Rumors backstage are that the fighters have been paid to keep it standing but we know that would never happen in MMA!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Joe Byren!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Terrance Pingshaw!
The judges for this bout are Taro Takaoka, Yukihiro Shimada and Shigeki Sano.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Byren looks to land a combination but Pingshaw avoids it well.

Byren decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard.
Pingshaw is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.

Pingshaw actively working from the bottom here.

Pingshaw is looking to sinch up a guillotine here but Byren pulls his head out easily.
Pingshaw moves his hips nicely and gets into full guard.
Byren lands a couple of elbows.
Byren with a flurry of punches that miss.

Pingshaw is looking for a triangle but Byren pushes his legs off easily.

Byren stands and steps away. Pingshaw gets to his feet too and we're back to the striking game.

Pingshaw shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Byren's guard.

Pingshaw drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Pingshaw jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.

Byren wants to stand but Pingshaw is controlling the position.

Pingshaw drops back looking for a leg! Byren is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Byren manages to kick Pingshaw off! Pingshaw jumps back into Byren's guard.
Byren wants to control here, rather than go for any submissions from the bottom. At least for now.

Pingshaw is holding a leg here, probably looking for an ankle lock - he drops back and goes for it! Byren is in trouble! Is it all over??? No! Byren has escaped and now he's on top!

Pingshaw is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.

Pingshaw is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Byren defends well.
Byren looking to sit in guard and control but Pingshaw gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.

Pingshaw stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Byren swivels though and keeps the full guard.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.
Byren throws a right hand that Pingshaw ducks under and follows up with a left that Pingshaw also avoids with ease.
Byren ducks down and throws a hook to the body.
Byren misses with a body shot.
A jab from Byren misses.

Excellent takedown into side control there by Byren.
Pingshaw trying to remain calm as Byren controls from the top position.
Sloppy strikes there by Byren.

Byren tries to advance to mount but Pingshaw denies him.
Pingshaw regains half guard there - taking advantage of Byren's attempt to lay and pray for a moment.

Byren wants to control but Pingshaw is keeping him busy.

The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action! This is the final round!


Byren lands with a nice combination. Pingshaw backs away looking to recover.
Terrance Pingshaw seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Pingshaw doesn't succeed with the takedown

and Byren counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground.

Pingshaw has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Byren can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.
Byren wants to get up but he can't break Pingshaw's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here.

Byren might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.

Pingshaw thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fighter is doing enough on the ground.
Byren misses with a jab and misses with a cross straight after too.
Byren throws a body punch but Pingshaw moves out of range.

Byren feints and as Pingshaw raises his hands in defense, Byren changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard.

Pingshaw has his foot on Byren's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Byren works his way back into a safe position though.
Byren has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.

Pingshaw is looking for a triangle but Byren pushes his legs off easily.

Pingshaw looking for submissions from the bottom here. Moving his hips around, possibly looking for an armbar.

Byren tries to free his leg and advance position but Pingshaw is retaining full guard.
Byren wants to control from the top but Pingshaw keeps moving.
Byren keeps in close for a moment and lands a decent shot to the side of Pingshaw's head.
Byren working in close now, lands a nice elbow to the side of Pingshaw's head.

Pingshaw working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Byren doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Byren manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.
Byren lands a couple of decent looking shots.

Pingshaw throws his legs up looking for a submission but Byren uses it to pass to side control.

Joe Byren showed his dominance in that final round.
Well Byren has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
