PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Roy Salt (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Leroy Parker (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Parker has a niggling injury. He would have liked to come in 100% fit but that's not always possible. Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 4 - 0, fighting out of New York, Roy Salt!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 2 - 0, fighting out of New York, Leroy Parker!
The judges for this bout are Dean Styles, Jorge Garcia and Chad Campbell.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Salt swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.
Salt defending well as Parker loads up on a big left hand.

Parker closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Parker lands in his opponent's guard.
Salt on his back here. We all know that wrestlers don't like being on their back so let's see if Salt tries to get out of the position.
Salt tries to land a sweep but no joy.
Parker stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Salt swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Parker missing there with some ground and pound from the guard.
Parker has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.
Salt is adopting a defensive guard.
Salt is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.
Parker looks gassed!

Salt wants to control but Parker is keeping him busy.

Parker is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Salt is aware though and is defending well.
Parker avoiding any damage from the ground and pound.

Parker looking for subs off his back but Salt has passed one foot through into half guard.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
Salt tries to pass the half guard into mount. Parker knows what he's doing though and prevents the attempt.
Salt winds up and cracks Parker with a swinging punch to the side of the head.
Salt missing with some ground and pound from the half guard.

Salt is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. Parker doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time Salt.

The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
Salt is trying to control. Parker wants to improve his position but can't escape this time.
Salt wants to pass to mount but Parker is defending the position.
Salt is looking to take a break and control but Parker is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.
Salt throwing shots but they're hitting the canvas more than the man.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Salt sitting in half guard, looking to land shots. Parker defending well though.
Parker is refusing to be controlled, as Salt sits in half guard.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.
Salt slips under a jab from Parker.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!

Salt decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard.
Salt wants to lay and pray for a moment but Parker keeps working.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Salt fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.
Parker avoids the clinch attempt nicely.
Parker waving his hands out in front of him, looking to distract Salt.
Salt moves out of range as Parker strikes.
Parker closes the distance looking to clinch
and Salt counters with an inside leg kick.
Salt leaves Parker with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
A right-left combo lands from Salt.
No luck for Salt with that takedown attempt.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Salt wants to clinch.

Parker takes a shot right to the bread basket.
Parker shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Salt but Salt pushes him off and we're back to square one.
Salt throws a head kick but Parker moves out of range.

Salt scores with a nice looking left hook and follows it up with an uppercut!
Salt displays some good footwork, moving neatly out of range as Parker throws out the jab.
Parker is on the wrong end of a nice combination from Salt.
Salt throws a chopping leg kick but Parker manages to avoid taking any serious damage.
Salt moves in looking to clinch but Parker pushes him off.

Parker looks to throw the jab but Salt is out of range.

Parker tries for a takedown but Salt circles away easily
and Salt counters with a series of strikes. Parker will be more careful next time no doubt.
Roy Salt has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Leroy Parker.
Salt lands a jab. Then a cross. Then finally a nice hook to the body. Good work there by Salt.
Parker shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Salt as he jumps to the side.
A telegraphed takedown attempt from Salt is defended easily by Parker.
Parker darts in trying to clinch
and Salt counters with a one-two to the body.
Salt works Parker's body with a nice hook.
Leroy Parker seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Salt moves out of range of the strikes.
Parker tries to clinch but Salt moves out of range.
Salt with a nice looking leg kick. You could hear that one land in a back row.

A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Salt.
Salt is trying hard to land a takedown here. Parker sprawls well and keeps this one on the feet.

and Salt counters with a good right hand that lands right on the jaw.
Parker fakes a jab and throws a low kick but Salt checks it well.
Parker keeping at a good range here, avoiding a leg kick.

Parker scores with a nice takedown into half guard. Let's see what he's got on the ground.
Parker slips a nice elbow through Salt's hands, connecting with Salt's forehead.
Parker scores with a couple of good hammerfists.
Parker wants to free his trapped foot but Salt is holding on for dear life with his legs.
Parker is thwarting Salt's attempts to control the position.
Parker prevents Salt from improving his position.

Parker is pressing down on Salt's thigh, looking to free his foot. Salt is holding on for now.
Parker slips a nice elbow through Salt's hands, connecting with Salt's forehead.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Parker throws out a loose jab but Salt uses good head movement to avoid it.
Parker does a little shimmy and throws a leg kick. The leg kick missed by a considerable margin though, making him look a little bit silly for doing the shimmy.
Salt throws a leg kick which misses Parker's front leg but catches the back leg as Parker tries to avoid it.
Parker fails in his attempt to clinch.
Salt misses with a takedown attempt - Parker sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.
Parker pushing out the jab but it's not landing.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Well, the break between rounds is over. Let's get back to the scrappin! And we move into the final round!


Salt uses good head movement to avoid the hook from Parker.

Salt feints and as Parker raises his hands in defense, Salt changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard.
Salt scores with a decent looking elbow strike.

Parker isolates an arm and boxes in a triangle. Salt stacks Parker on his neck as he steps over and passes to the side. He's now in a much more dominant position where he can look to do some serious damage. Nice move by Salt!
Parker takes a nasty elbow to the side of the head.
Parker is looking to reverse the position.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.
Parker can't do much from the bottom here.

Parker tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Salt wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control.
Parker is persisting with the attempt to improve his position.
Parker wants to get back to his feet but Salt drags him back down.
You can see the frustration on Parker's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Salt looks for a takedown but Parker sprawls well.

Parker shoots in and bounces Salt off the cage to secure the takedown into guard.
Parker postures up.
Hammerfist, elbow! yells Parker's corner. There ya go! There ya go!

Salt has Parker pulled in close to control his posture.
Parker lands a couple of digs.
Parker landing some decent shots from guard.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.

and Salt counters with a driving takedown into guard. Nice work there by Salt.
Parker looking to hit a scissor sweep but Salt is one step ahead there.

Well Salt has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
