Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Jon Rhodes (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Royce Castro (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

The judges for this bout are David Schapiro, Russell Pearce and Columbo Gatti.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Castro shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Rhodes as he jumps to the side.
Rhodes shoots in but doesn't get the takedown

and Castro counters with a nice double leg into half guard.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Castro seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Rhodes does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.

Castro got a little sloppy there for a moment and Rhodes has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Castro has managed to get both his arms back between Rhodes's legs - danger averted.

Rhodes throws and elbow that misses. Castro uses the momentum to reverse the position. He's now in Rhodes's guard. Nice move by Castro!

The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!


Rhodes tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Castro paws at him with a jab and circles away.

Castro looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Rhodes with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fighter is doing enough on the ground.

Castro looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.
Rhodes moves in looking to clinch but Castro pushes him off.
Rhodes leaves Castro with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.
Jon Rhodes has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Royce Castro.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
