PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Marrick Bull (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Kayama Soto (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). I'm sure you'll be fascinated to know that I was talking to some pointless Z list celebrity before the fight and he thought that Kayama Soto was going to win. Let's see if he was right.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Marrick Bull!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Kayama Soto!
The judges for this bout are Yasuomi Hirokawa, Ren Mimura and Yukihiro Yamamoto.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Soto scores with a reasonable looking shot to the body. Bull doesn't seem bothered though.
Soto lunges at Bull with a hook that half lands and is half blocked by Bull's hand.
A head kick misses from Soto.
Good leg kick by Soto there. It's the ones that make that thud noise that hurt and that was an almighty thud.
Soto cracks Bull with a good jab.
Soto catches Bull napping and connects with a big right hand that sends Bull to the canvas!


Bull is rocked!
This has been an exciting period of action!
Soto has decided he wants to stand but the closed guard of Bull is proving hard to escape from.
Oh Bull is still in real trouble! Will he be able to recover?!!
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Bull keeping moving, preventing Soto from controlling successfully.
Bull seems to have got his legs back now.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Soto throwing strikes but missing.
Soto throws a strike but Bull rolls with it and manages to sweep. Now he's in guard on top.
Soto is looking to stand up but Bull isn't so interested in that idea.
Bull wants to control from the top but Soto keeps moving.
Bull is breathing heavily.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Bull stops Soto from standing up.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.
Soto is looking to clinch but Bull is avoiding it.
Bull misses with a telegraphed body shot
and Soto counters with a good right hand that lands right on the jaw.
Soto's corner calls for a 1-2. Soto obliges with the 1 part as he scores the single shot and moves back out of range.
Soto throws a sloppy head kick and Bull moves out of range easily.
Some wild striking there from Soto.
Nice uppercut there from Soto.
Bull throws a jab but it's blocked by Soto.

Bull clinches.
Bull prevents the takedown attempt.
Soto is trying to break the clinch but Bull has him pressed against the cage.
Bull controlling the action here for a moment.
Soto tries to break the clinch but Bull is controlling the position.

Bull has managed to pull guard. Let's see whether he can work an aggressive guard. It will also be interesting to see what tactics Soto uses from the top position.
Bull lands a beautiful switch and he's in full mount! That could spell trouble for Soto!
Bull looking to control but Soto is working nicely, looking to advance position himself.

Bull is standing up, even though he is in mount.
Danga de danga de dang - Bull scores with a four punch combination!


It looks like Kayama Soto has been cut.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!

Bull scores a takedown into full mount!
Soto tries to hold on but Bull pushes him away.
Soto squirming around on the bottom, looking to escape.
Soto can't escape the position.
Soto has given up his back, trying to stand up. Not clever.
A bit of a pause in the action here. Bull controlling the positon.
Soto really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Bull. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Soto is trying to get back to his feet but Bull has full control of the position and if anything, Soto has just worked his way into a worse spot.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Bull has the hooks in. Soto is trying to push off one leg but he has to do so cautiously to avoid being submitted.
Soto prevents Bull from getting a body triangle.

Bull is working for the rear naked choke. He has one arm under the chin but Soto has hold of the other arm. A bit of a stalemate here.
Soto rolls and manages to get back to half guard. Nicely done.

Bull is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. Soto doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time Bull.
Bull is keen to just control but Soto is a slippery customer.
Bull trying to mount his opponent but Soto defends it.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Bull is just sitting in half guard, waiting for something to happen.
Soto punching from the bottom.

Bull is working for a kimura but Soto is defending it quite comfortably.
Bull controlling the action here.
Soto is looking to escape.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Soto wants to control but Bull is keeping busy and won't allow it.
Soto throws a strike from the bottom that misses.

Bull seems to be looking for submissions.

Bull is looking for a kimura but Soto is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Bull to get the leverage.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close round but Kayama Soto will probably get the nod.
The cut man is working on Kayama Soto's cut.
That's time! Back to the action!

Bull swings widly with a right hand
and Bull takes a counter punch right on the button for his troubles.
Soto connects with a lovely jab that went straight through the gap between Bull's hands.
Soto fakes the leg kick and cracks Bull in the body.
Soto Rushes Bull and starts throwing punches like they are going out of style! Bull is up against the cage and has nowhere to go. Soto Piles on the pressure and Bull crumples to the floor! This one is all over!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 0:17 of round 2, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Kayama Soto!
