Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Kova Luu (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Mirko Filipovics (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Mirko Filipovics has the eye of the tiger tonight.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Luu bobs and weaves well there to avoid the strikes.

Luu bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.
Filipovics is positioning himself to get back to half guard.

Luu working hard here to secure a kimura but he's not really in the right position for it.

Luu has had enough of the ground for now and decides to stand.
Luu looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily.
Filipovics throws a good cross that connects.

It looks like Kova Luu has been cut.

Filipovics throws a hook to the side of Luu's head but Luu sees it coming and ducks under it beautifully.

Luu shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Oh and he's advanced to full mount straight away.

Luu has his opponent pinned against the cage, landing some nasty ground and pound that is really making a bit of a mess out of Filipovics's face.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Luu has control of Filipovics's right arm, working for a kimura. It's a bit of a token attempt though and Filipovics regains control of the situation pretty easily.

Luu misses with a series of strikes from mount. He'll no doubt be working on his ground and pound when he gets back to the gym.
Luu has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.

We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Filipovics can do anything to dispel that myth.

Luu shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Filipovics pinned against the cage. Filipovics gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.
Filipovics fails to land with the punch combination there - jab, cross, hook, miss, miss, miss.

Filipovics stalks Luu and leaps in with a furious combination of punches. Uppercuts and crosses smash into Luu's face. Luu staggers backwards, shaken.
Luu takes a jab on the nose there. A little bit of blood seems to be coming out. Hopefully that won't affect his breathing.

Filipovics cracks Luu with a hook to the jaw. Both fighters smile at eachother and high-five before getting back down to business.

Luu looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.
Filipovics misses with a body shot. Nice footwork from Luu.

Filipovics throws a left and a right that both miss
and Luu counters with a two punch combo.
Luu looks to land a combination but Filipovics avoids it well.

Luu pushes Filipovics up against the cage in a clinch.
Filipovics has had enough of the clinch but Luu keeps him there for the moment.

Luu jumps guard and drags Filipovics to the mat. He's obviously going to be looking for submissions off his back.

Luu shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Filipovics sprawls well. Filipovics wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Luu gets slowly back to his feet.

Filipovics really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Luu. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

Luu throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Filipovics's waist but Filipovics gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Luu off to one side.

The referee warns Filipovics that he has to improve his position here as he takes two more clean shots to the head.

Luu is going oldschool here, as he tries to force Filipovics to tap using a forearm choke. This isn't 1993 though, so Filipovics shrugs it off.
Filipovics is squirming around, avoiding Luu's attempts to control the action.

Luu is thinking about an arm triangle here, looking to tighten it up before moving to side control. Filipovics can see it coming though and defends well with a couple of strikes to the head and some good arm positioning.

Luu is working on an americana here. Ooh, that looks pretty nasty! Nope, Filipovics has managed to escape the submission attempt.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.

Luu quickly switches position and commits to an armbar! It's a big risk for Luu but it's paid off an Filipovics is forced to tap! Nice work by Luu.
