Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Paul Paul (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Mirko Jr Filipovic (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Mirko Jr Filipovic will no doubt be trying to keep this one on the feet, where he has a distinct advantage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.

With a record of 2 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Mirko Jr Filipovic!
The judges for this bout are Ren Mimura, Tatsuya Matsuyama and Yukihiro Yamamoto.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Paul keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl.
Filipovic will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.
Paul moves out of range as Filipovic throws a body kick.

Paul bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.
Filipovic is trying to improve his position.

Paul will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.
You can see the frustration on Filipovic's face as Paul controls the position.
Paul misses with a strike but at least he's keeping busy, looking to cause some damage - that will still help him when it comes to the judges scorecards.

Paul's ground tactics aren't going to win him many fans. Let's hope he's got fireworks for us if he gets back to his feet because he's not doing much on the ground.

The referee stands the fighters back up. Paul Paul just wasn't active enough from the dominant position.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.

Paul closes the distance and presses his opponent up against the cage.

There's a bit of a scramble here and now Paul is on top in guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Paul bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Filipovic's guard.

Filipovic working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Paul doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Paul manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.

The two fighters exchange a few words. I couldn't hear what they were saying but maybe it's more fun if you make it up yourself. Paul connects with a nice short shot to Filipovic's temple.

Filipovic stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Filipovic wants it to stay on the feet.

This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Paul drops back looking for a leg! Filipovic is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Filipovic manages to kick Paul off! Paul jumps back into Filipovic's guard.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.
Filipovic pivots as if he's going to throw a leg kick but stops half way.

and Paul counters with a nice double leg into side control. Filipovic won't be happy with that.
Paul remains in side control and seems content to stay there. It's a versatile position from which he can work both strikes and submissions, whilst maintaining that control, so maybe he'll sit here for a while.
Filipovic is working to avoid the ground and pound but Paul connects with a decent elbow.
Filipovic is sneaking out the side here. He's bucked Paul off and has taken his back!
Filipovic is trying to stick to Paul's back but Paul is turning into Filipovic. He's managed to reverse the position - now he's in Filipovic's guard. Polite applause from the crowd in appreciation of some nice Jiu Jitsu by Paul.
