Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Shimabakurou Imai (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Craig Mantil (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of London, Shimabakurou Imai!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of London, Craig Mantil!
The judges for this bout are Andrew Berry, Donald Grub and Richard Clark.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Mantil looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Imai is fending him off so far but Mantil persists. Nope, Imai circles away and we're back to standing.
Mantil swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.
Imai misses with a series of wild punches.
Imai takes a head kick and keeps coming.


It looks like Shimabakurou Imai has been cut.
Imai throws a wild combination but nothing lands.
Mantil shoots in looking for a takedown. Imai tries to sprawl out of it but Mantil keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Imai manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.
Mantil blocks a low kick nicely.
Imai misses with the combination.
Mantil changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Imai tries to avoid it but Mantil manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Imai to the ground. Imai escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.

Imai throws a jab, cross combination which is slipped
and Mantil counters with a big head kick but Imai shrugs it off.
Mantil tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Mantil thows a body shot but no joy.
Mantil shoots in looking for a takedown. Imai tries to sprawl out of it but Mantil keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Imai manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.
Imai paws at his opponent with the jab and then lunges in with a straight, right on the button.
Imai fails to land with a series of punches.
Mantil closes this distance looking for a takedown but Imai circles away.
Imai tries to bum rush Mantil with a series of wild strikes but Mantil uses good footwork to avoid the assault.

Mantil throws a hook but Imai avoids it easily.
Mantil avoids a punch combination nicely.
Imai misses with the combination.
No luck for Mantil with that takedown attempt.
Mantil is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.
Mantil swings and misses with a hook to the body.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Danga de danga de dang - Imai scores with a four punch combination!
Imai throws a wild combination but nothing lands.
Mantil fails to land the takedown.
Mantil looks gassed!
Imai looks to land a combination. Mantil sees it coming but can only parry a couple of the shots.
Imai lets the fists fly and connects with a left straight followed by a right hook.
Imai lands a jab, followed by a cross and another cross, as Mantil backs up against the cage.
Mantil fails to land with a series of punches.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Mantil looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily.
Mantil tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Shimabakurou Imai will probably get the nod.

and Mantil counters with a nice single leg takedown and he's in Imai's guard now.

Mantil decides to stand up and beckons his opponent to follow.
Mantil tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Imai swivels and escapes.
Horrible takedown by Mantil or perhaps it was just good defense by Imai which made him look bad.

and Mantil counters with a nice single leg takedown and he's in Imai's guard now.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Mantil stops Imai from standing up.
Mantil is breathing heavily.
Mantil postures up in Imai's guard and throws a big left but Imai blocks it.

Imai utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.
Mantil stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Imai swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Imai wants to get back to his feet but Mantil passes into half guard.
Mantil trying to control the action but Imai is working from the bottom.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Imai looks like he's trying to stand up.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Imai moves out of range of the body kick.
Mantil fails with a takedown attempt.
Shimabakurou Imai has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Craig Mantil.

Imai stalks Mantil and leaps in with a furious combination of punches. Uppercuts and crosses smash into Mantil's face. Mantil staggers backwards, shaken.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Craig Mantil showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.

Mantil wants to clinch up but Imai keeps it at a distance.
Mantil shoots in but no luck this time.
Mantil fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Imai avoids it really well and circles away.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Imai walks forward and throws out a flicking leg kick. Mantil checks it nicely though, as he moves to the side.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Imai lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Mantil circles away quickly and effectively.
Mantil avoids a punch combination nicely.
Imai throws a right and a left that Mantil avoids nicely.
Imai fails to land with a series of punches.
Mantil will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.
Imai throws a right hand that Mantil ducks under and follows up with a left that Mantil also avoids with ease.
Mantil has his head slapped from side to side by a 3 punch combination. That must have hurt him.

Imai throws a nice looking combination but Mantil bobs and weaves to avoid any damage.
Craig Mantil seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Imai bobs and weaves and throws out a fast jab that snaps Mantil's head backwards.
Imai throws a low kick but Mantil avoids it.
Imai looks to score with a combo but nothing lands.
Mantil wants to clinch.

Mantil misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
