PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Andrei Arshavin (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Chris Crocker (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Arshavin comes to the cage accompanied by The Arsenal Mastermind. Crocker has chosen Britney Spears - Gimme More as his entrance music. Andrei Arshavin has the edge in experience - let's see if he can make that count tonight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 7 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Andrei Arshavin!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 5 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Chris Crocker!
The judges for this bout are Gwen Towbar, Robert Twigg and Alan Glass.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Crocker clinches up against the cage.
Crocker blocks a couple of punches on the inside.
Arshavin is pressed up against the cage. Crocker has hold of a leg and is looking to drag Arshavin down to the mat. Arshavin avoids the attempt though and has circled away. We're back to striking at a distance.

Arshavin clinches with his opponent.
Crocker has Arshavin pressed up against the cage and is working for takedown. Arshavin manages to improve position though and keeps the fight standing.
Crocker with the Thai clinch. He's looking to land a big knee but he's not managed it this time.
Arshavin goes for a takedown attempt but Crocker pushes him away and we're back to fighting at a distance.
Arshavin changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Crocker tries to avoid it but Arshavin manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Crocker to the ground. Crocker escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.

Crocker shoots and misses

and Arshavin counters with a nice double leg into side control. Crocker won't be happy with that.
Andrei Arshavin has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Chris Crocker.
Arshavin wants to take a breather but Crocker manages to regain guard - a lesson learnt for Arshavin.

Arshavin drops back for a leg but he's not going to get it - he lets go and Crocker dives on top into guard.

Crocker is nestled in close to Arshavin, controlling him well. He's worked in a nice elbow to the side of the head as well, for good measure.

The two fighters exchange a few words. I couldn't hear what they were saying but maybe it's more fun if you make it up yourself. Crocker connects with a nice short shot to Arshavin's temple.

Arshavin is looking to sinch up a guillotine here but Crocker pulls his head out easily.

Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Arshavin takes a couple of big shots there - the referee warns him that he has to defend himself better.

Crocker is having to fend off submission attempts from Arshavin, who is looking to sink in the choke. Arshavin doesn't have the hooks in though and Crocker manages to reverse position! He's now on top, in his opponent's guard.
Crocker has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.

Crocker is looking to pass the guard... He's managed it - he's now in full mount!

It looks like Andrei Arshavin has been cut.

Crocker pausing momentarily but resumes with a couple of decent strikes that do a bit of damage.


Arshavin is rocked!
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

Chris Crocker comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Crocker has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
