The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Chapel shoots in for a takedown but Gold shows good takedown defense.
Chapel throws a body kick but he was well out of range there.
Gold throws a jab when Chapel was well out of range.
Gold smiles there as he lands a nice right hand right on the button.
Chapel shapes like he's going to throw a leg kick but settles back down.

Neither fighter is being very active at the moment, with Chapel in particular looking to stall.

A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Chapel accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Gold looking to hit a scissor sweep but Chapel is one step ahead there.
Gold manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Chapel manages to get himself to full guard.
Chapel is trying to control the position but Gold postures up.
Chapel wants to sweep here but Gold controlling him for the moment.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Chapel is looking for a sweep. Gold is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.
The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.

Gold is sneakily working for an arm triangle but Chapel sees it coming and defends easily.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fighter is doing enough on the ground.
Gold is looking to take this fight into the clinch.
Gold slaps away a takedown attempt from Chapel, before circling back to the center of the mat.
Chapel blocks a leg kick.
A chopping leg kick lands by Gold.
Gold checks a low kick. Bone on bone - not my idea of a good time.

This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

and Chapel counters with a body kick that stops Gold in his tracks momentarily.

Some bone on bone action there as Chapel checks a low kick. Luckily it wasn't a particularly hard one.

Chapel tries to check the leg kick but that clearly hurt him.

Gold feints with a shoulder and throws a nice leg kick to Chapel's calf.

Chapel on the wrong end of an overhand right that came out of nowhere.

Chapel bobs and weaves well there to avoid the strikes.
Gold lands a jab to Chapel's midsection.
Like a baseball bat into the meat of his leg there - nice leg kick by Gold.
Gold tries to score with an inside leg kick but telegraphs it and Chapel is able to avoid easily.
Gold does a little shimmy and throws a leg kick. The leg kick missed by a considerable margin though, making him look a little bit silly for doing the shimmy.
Gold tries to close the distance and clinch up but Chapel swats him away and circles back towards the center.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Chapel changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Gold tries to avoid it but Chapel manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Gold to the ground. Gold escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
Chapel moves forwards but Gold connects with a nice, crisp jab.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Gold looks to land a body kick but Chapel moved away.

The sound of bone on bone echoes around the arena as Chapel checks a leg kick.
Chapel shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Gold as he jumps to the side.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Chapel turns his hip over beautifully as he lands a nice leg kick.

Gold tries to close the distance and clinch up but Chapel swats him away and circles back towards the center.
