PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Marvin Hinton (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Fred Dukes (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Hinton comes to the cage accompanied by Pantera - Walk. These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.

The judges for this bout are Gwen Towbar, George Francis and Cecil Peabody.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Hinton throws a sloppy head kick and Dukes moves out of range easily.
A bone on bone clash there as Dukes blocks the leg kick.

Dukes rushes Hinton and pushes him back against the cage in a clinch.
Hinton has had enough of the clinch but Dukes keeps him there for the moment.
Dukes wants to stall.
Dukes prevents Hinton from breaking the clinch.

Marvin Hinton seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Dukes moves into range and throws a lovely three punch combination.

Dukes really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Hinton. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Hinton chips away with some ground and pound.
Hinton might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.
Hinton wants to control from the top but Dukes keeps moving.

Hinton is going to have to think about doing something other than just controlling because Hinton is managing to avoid having the position dictated to him.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.
Dukes moves in looking to clinch but Hinton pushes him off.

Dukes lands a jab, followed by a cross and another cross, as Hinton backs up against the cage.
Hinton throws a lazy right hand but Dukes sees it coming a mile off and sidesteps it easily.

and Hinton counters with a shoot takedown into half guard.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Dukes pushes Hinton off looking to stand but Hinton dives back in and keeps control.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Hinton is trying to work for a kimura but Dukes is defending well.

Hinton has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.

Hinton uses his free foot to push down on Dukes's thigh. Eventually he works his other foot free and he's advanced to mount - this is trouble for Dukes.
Hinton moves to back control.
I would not like to be Dukes right now.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

Hinton is looking for the choke from the back position but Dukes is controlling his hands well.

Hinton tries to check the leg kick but that clearly hurt him.
Dukes throws a wild body kick that Hinton sees coming a mile off.

Hinton has a body lock and is looking for a takedown. Dukes is bouncing around trying to prevent the takedown and somehow he has indeed managed to stay on his feet.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.

Hinton throws a right and a left that Dukes avoids nicely.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Hinton is pressed up against the cage. Dukes has hold of a leg and is looking to drag Hinton down to the mat. Hinton avoids the attempt though and has circled away. We're back to striking at a distance.

Dukes stooping low to avoid any incoming strikes and then lunges in with an uppercut come cross that lands flush.
Dukes scores with a nice looking left hook and follows it up with an uppercut!
The fight stays on the outside here - Dukes looks like he's thinking about clinching though.
Dukes throws a jab, cross combination which is slipped

and Hinton counters with a takedown into side control. Hinton lands a decent elbow from side control.
Dukes is not content to let Hinton control the position.

Hinton is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Dukes knows the correct defense though, so he's OK.
Dukes is trying to stand back up. He's worked his way up against the cage but Hinton has just dragged him back down to the mat.

Dukes gives up the full mount - oops, sloppy defensive grappling there!

Hinton thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead.

Dukes tries to escape but Hinton is in control.

Hinton is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Dukes is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now.

Hinton tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Hinton has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!
Dukes is working hard to escape and get back to his feet. After a battle for position, Hinton asserts his dominance and retains side control.

Hinton has hold of Dukes's arm. He's looking for a kimura. Dukes seems comfortable defending it but Hinton has shifted his position slighty and is cranking on the arm! Dukes is real pain and he's forced to tap out! Dukes is disgusted with himself for not defending it better but Hinton couldn't care less - he's delighted!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:50 of round 3, we have a winner by way of Submission (Kimura). Marvin Hinton!
