PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Kai Boi Chang (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Toby Rinker (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Rinker is bobbing his head along to his entrance song: Im Not Afraid. We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Toby Rinker!
The judges for this bout are Bruno Lombardi, Anthony Taglia and Chad Campbell.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Chang looks to land a combination but Rinker avoids it well.

Chang gets taken down but at least he's managed to land in guard.
Chang wants to get back to his feet but Rinker is in a dominant position and won't allow it.
Rinker makes a bit of distance and scores with some ground and pound, still in guard.
Rinker lands a couple of elbows.

Rinker stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Chang swivels though and keeps the full guard.

Chang has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Rinker can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.
Rinker is working Chang over from the guard. He should look to pass the guard and do a little more damage with these strikes.
Rinker stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Chang swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Rinker slows down the pace of the fight, as he sits in guard.

Rinker distracts Chang with his right hand and drops a big elbow with his other arm.
Chang can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Rinker controls the pace.
Rinker passes Chang's right leg, so he's now in half guard.
Rinker landing with strikes to the body and head, softening up his opponent.
Rinker content to control rather than advance.
Let's hope that Rinker has the urge to step up the pace any second now because for the last 15 or 20 seconds he's just been holding on tight.

Chang tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Rinker wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control.

Rinker tucks in and makes sure he doesn't lose the dominant position.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Rinker postures up and cracks his opponent a couple of times before moving back into close ground control. Chang looks a forlorn figure.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Rinker tucks in and makes sure he doesn't lose the dominant position.

Chang is in a horrible position here. Rinker smacks him with another shot as he tries to escape the position.

The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!


Chang tries to clinch there but Rinker circles away.

and Rinker counters with a nice double leg into side control. Chang won't be happy with that.
Rinker should think about turning a few of those tyres round his middle into muscle if he wants people to take him seriously as an athlete.
Rinker is maintaining the dominant position - no doubt Chang will start to get frustrated soon if he's not already.
Rinker looks up at the clock and then as Chang takes his cue and looks up at the clock too, Rinker smacks him right in the chops with a big elbow! How rude!

The referee asks Rinker politely if he wouldn't mind getting on with it and actually doing something. Rinker prefers to stall for the moment though.
Chang is trying to work for a sweep but Rinker has mounted him!

Chang has left one of his arms exposed and Rinker doesn't need a second invitation. He's isolated it and locked on a tight armbar. Chang screams and taps out, obviously in a lot of pain. Hopefully there isn't permanent damage to that arm.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 0:56 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Armbar). Toby Rinker!
