PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between kassu koivu (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Mr Doe (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Mr Doe told me before the fight that he's been watching a lot of DVDs so let's see if that helps him in this one! I can't wait to find out!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, kassu koivu!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Mr Doe!
The judges for this bout are Tarja Halkonen, Arvi Lind and Marco Blurström.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

koivu gets caught on his heels momentarily as he allows Doe to score an easy takedown into full guard.
Doe in full guard, throwing the ground and pound. No damage this time.
Doe thows a big elbow that misses.
Doe working some strikes from top position.
Doe stands up over koivu, holding his feet. He dives back in and lands a decent shot to the head.

It looks like kassu koivu has been cut.
Doe lands a nice shot whilst sitting in his opponent's guard.
Doe lands a couple of elbows.
Doe preventing the sweep.
koivu keeping moving, preventing Doe from controlling successfully.
Doe throws a big right hand that misses.
Doe must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.

koivu utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.
koivu wants to sweep here but Doe controlling him for the moment.

Doe missing there with some ground and pound from the guard.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.
No luck with that takedown attempt from Doe.

Doe looking for a takedown here - he's got it.
koivu is looking to stand up but Doe isn't so interested in that idea.
Doe lands a couple of decent looking shots.

kassu koivu's cut is getting worse.
A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Doe accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.

koivu working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Doe doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Doe manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.

Doe is working the ground and pound from guard. He might want to try advancing position though to get more of an impact.

kassu koivu's cut is bleeding quite badly. He's got to try and protect it.

Jeez, kassu koivu's cut is really nasty now. The referee must be thinking about getting that checked.
