PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Dexter Redshaw (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Steach Gibbins (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Redshaw comes into the arena with Maksim - Flight of the Bumblebee blaring out of the sound system. Gibbins has chosen Immortal Corruptor as his entrance music. Steach Gibbins told me before the fight that he's been watching a lot of DVDs so let's see if that helps him in this one! I can't wait to find out!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Dexter Redshaw!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Steach Gibbins!
The judges for this bout are Donatello Bradman, Bruno Hogan and John Mangel.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Gibbins fails to land with a series of punches.
Gibbins checks a low kick from Redshaw.
Redshaw avoids the head kick by Gibbins.
Redshaw takes a head kick and keeps coming.
Gibbins throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.

Redshaw closes the distance and scores a nice trip takedown into half guard. Gibbins did well to prevent Redshaw getting side control.

Redshaw thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Gibbins's head.
Gibbins is refusing to be controlled, as Redshaw sits in half guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Redshaw throws a strike but Gibbins avoids it easily and moves to full guard.
Redshaw knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Gibbins on the ground.

Gibbins is looking for a triangle but Redshaw pushes his legs off easily.

There's a bit of a scramble here and now Gibbins is on top in guard.
Redshaw is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.
Gibbins misses with a looping left.

Boom, another hit is landed. "You're gunna get knocked out" taunts Gibbins, as that shot connected.

Gibbins cracks Redshaw with a good shot that sees him stumbling back into the cage.
Gibbins misses with a double jab.
Gibbins tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.

Redshaw drives through with a takedown into guard.
Redshaw throws a strike but Gibbins rolls with it and manages to sweep. Now he's in guard on top.

The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
Redshaw managing to control the position.
Gibbins trying to control but Redshaw is working from the bottom.

Gibbins is in a good position here but he's just trying to control... And he's not even managing to do that successfully.

Redshaw on his back here. We all know that wrestlers don't like being on their back so let's see if Redshaw tries to get out of the position.

Gibbins stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Redshaw swivels though and keeps the full guard.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.
A head kick from Gibbins lands but Redshaw takes it in his stride.
Steach Gibbins is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
Gibbins throws a sloppy head kick and Redshaw moves out of range easily.
Redshaw attempts a leg kick but it's missed by a good margin.

Redshaw shoots in for a takedown and gets it.
Gibbins moves into full guard.

Redshawis looking to pass into half guard but Gibbins pushes him away with his feet and jumps on top - now Gibbins is in guard.
Redshaw has Gibbins pulled in close to control his posture.
Gibbins trying to control the position from guard on top but Redshaw is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Gibbins might have to switch it up a bit here because his efforts to control Redshaw kaven't been going to plan, at least at the current moment in time.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.



Redshaw shoots in for a takedown from distance. He catches Gibbins napping and manages to drive through into side control!

Redshaw throws a strike but Gibbins rolls with it and manages to sweep. Now he's in guard on top.

Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Gibbins's corner are shouting for him to stand up but that's bad cornering - how is he meant to stand up when he's mounted? He should be looking to improve his position on the ground before trying to stand back up.

As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

Well, the break between rounds is over. Let's get back to the scrappin! So, we enter the final round. Let's see if either fighter can bring us a finish, or whether we're going to the judges scorecards.



Redshaw shoots in looking for a single leg takedown. Gibbins is trying to defend but Redshaw finishes it well and ends up in half guard. Let's see if he can advance position further.


It looks like Steach Gibbins has been cut.
Redshaw working some ground and pound from close in. He's looking to maintain this position and strike for a while by the looks of things... although he'll probably advance to full mount in a minute now I've said that.
Redshaw is looking to take a break and control but Gibbins is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
