PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Chris Hunter (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Vitor Belfort (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Hunter comes to the cage accompanied by Warriors of the World. Vitor Belfort will no doubt be looking to use his reach advantage to good effect.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Chris Hunter!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Vitor Belfort!
The judges for this bout are Saam Ante, Paul Aken and Wagner Zegers.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Belfort works over Hunter's head and body with a nice combination.


It looks like Chris Hunter has been cut.
Belfort fails to land with a series of punches.

Hunter fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Belfort, pushing him back against the cage.

Hunter gets control of Belfort's arms and successfully pulls guard. Hunter will no doubt be looking for submissions off his back.
Hunter keeping moving, preventing Belfort from controlling successfully.
Hunter thows some rabbit punches from the bottom but they don't do any damage.
A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Belfort accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.
Belfort is just sitting in guard, looking to avoid any submissions.
Hunter wants to stand up but Belfort is controlling him.
Belfort is stalling in the full guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Hunter throwing some rather feeble looking strikes off his back.

Belfort sneaks a leg through and gets to half guard. That was like a knife through butter how easily he passed Hunter's guard.
Hunter wants to get back to full guard.
Hunter is working hard here to advance position.
Belfort trying to control the action but Hunter is working from the bottom.
Belfort tries to pass to full mount but Hunter defends it.
Hunter might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.
It looks like Belfort is going to stand back up.

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.

Hunter takes the fight into the clinch.
Belfort tries to pull guard but Hunter holds him up against the cage and eventually Belfort drops back down to his feet.

Belfort is fighting off a takedown attempt but Hunter is just too persistent for him and manages to trip Belfort to the mat. Belfort regains guard as soon as the fighters hit the mat.

Hunter wants to control from the top but Belfort keeps moving.

Belfort is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

Hunter sneaks a leg through and gets to half guard. That was like a knife through butter how easily he passed Belfort's guard.

Belfort wants to get back to full guard.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Hunter is nestled in close to Belfort, controlling him well. He's worked in a nice elbow to the side of the head as well, for good measure.
Hunter is looking to pass the guard... He's managed it - he's now in full mount!
Hunter controlling the pace for now.
Hunter with shots to the head and body - Belfort looks very uncomfortable down there.
Belfort sneaks a leg under to get to half guard.
Well, if Hunter is going to just lie there, perhaps we should talk about what we're having for dinner tonight… I'm having a ham and pineapple pizza… Yum. Can't wait.
Hunter moves into full mount! Belfort won't be happy about that!
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Chris Hunter will probably get the nod.

Hunter has managed to clinch.
Some stalling of biblical proportions here from Hunter.
Hunter fails to pull the fight into his guard.
Hunter has hold of a leg and is looking for a trip takedown. Belfort avoids it nicely though and we remain in the clinch.

Hunter pulls guard successfully.
Hunter is pulling down on Belfort's head. It's preventing any offense from Belfort, at least for the moment.
Belfort trying to control but Hunter is working from the bottom.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Belfort is in a good position here but he's just trying to control... And he's not even managing to do that successfully.
Belfort is breathing heavily.
Hunter is trying to keep Belfort in close.

Belfort tries to stand but can't do so whilst Hunter controls his leg.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.
Hunter misses with a head kick.

Hunter looks for a takedown. He's got it. We're now in half guard.
Hunter is trying to control. Belfort wants to improve his position but can't escape this time.

Hunter stands up from half guard.

Hunter scores a takedown into full mount!

Hunter can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Belfort is looking to escape.

Belfort is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.

Hunter is thinking about an arm triangle here, looking to tighten it up before moving to side control. Belfort can see it coming though and defends well with a couple of strikes to the head and some good arm positioning.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Hunter tucks in and makes sure he doesn't lose the dominant position.

Hunter looking to secure an arm triangle but Belfort defends it well.
Belfort is bucking up trying to escape but Hunter cracks him with another couple of good strikes.
Hunter has his opponent pinned against the cage, landing some nasty ground and pound that is really making a bit of a mess out of Belfort's face.
Hunter looking to control but Belfort is working nicely, looking to advance position himself.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action. This is the final round!



Hunter moves into the clinch successfully.

Hunter breaks the clinch.
Belfort takes a swing at Hunter's ribcage but misses.

Hunter looks for a takedown. He's got it. We're now in half guard.
Belfort tries to get to full guard but Hunter has control of the leg.
Hunter seems to be taking a bit of a break to think of his next move. He lands a short punch in the meantime.
Belfort takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.
Belfort is refusing to be controlled, as Hunter sits in half guard.

That's one minute gone in the round.

Hunter seems to be looking for submissions.

Hunter is thinking about going for an arm triangle but he can't free his leg.

Belfort manages to escape and get back to his feet!

Hunter feints and as Belfort raises his hands in defense, Hunter changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard.
Hunter trying to control the position from guard on top but Belfort is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

Belfort is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Hunter is aware though and is defending well.

Hunter controls from within his opponent's guard.
Hunter works over Belfort with some ground and pound from guard.
Belfort wants to sweep but no luck.
Hunter advances position into side control!
Hunter remains in side control and seems content to stay there. It's a versatile position from which he can work both strikes and submissions, whilst maintaining that control, so maybe he'll sit here for a while.

Belfort is looking to regain half guard here but Hunter keeps moving and retains side control.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Belfort is letting Hunter control him for a moment.
Hunter has knee on belly and now moves to full mount! Trouble for Belfort!

Hunter is working to isolate an arm here. It's a telegraphed submission attempt but he's gone for it anyway - and he's got it! Hunter extends the arm and Belfort is forced to tap!
