PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a super heavyweight MMA rules bout between Connor Peevor (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Robert McCay (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). McCay has chosen Burning Heart as his entrance music. Both these guys have really solid chins. Will we see a standup war or will they both decide that a knockout is unlikely and try to win the fight elsewhere?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the super heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of London, Connor Peevor!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of London, Robert McCay!
The judges for this bout are Sam Margolis, Steven Brown and Donald Grub.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
McCay avoids the clinch attempt nicely.
Peevor tries to clinch but McCay moves out of range.
McCay looks to land a body kick but Peevor moved away.

McCay closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - McCay lands in his opponent's guard.
Peevor controls McCay momentarily but McCay frees himself.
McCay trying to control the position from guard on top but Peevor is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

McCay stands and steps away. Peevor gets to his feet too and we're back to the striking game.
Peevor misses with a takedown attempt
and McCay makes him pay by landing a nice hook to the body before moving out of range.
Peevor takes a really solid shot there but just smiles back and shrugs his shoulders.


It looks like Connor Peevor has been cut.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Peevor throws a wild combination but nothing lands.
Peevor is breathing heavily.
McCay fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Peevor avoids it really well and circles away.

That's one minute gone in the round.
McCay plants his feet and lands a nice head kick!
Peevor really is a fat lump.

McCay rushes Peevor and presses him up against the cage.

McCay breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.

Peevor wants to sweep here but McCay controlling him for the moment.

Peevor is trying to control the position but McCay postures up.

Peevor might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.
McCay seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.
Peevor is looking to stand up but McCay isn't so interested in that idea.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.

McCay clinches.
Peevor tries to circle away but McCay has him pinned against the cage.

McCay gets control of Peevor's arms and successfully pulls guard. McCay will no doubt be looking for submissions off his back.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
McCay controls the pace of the fight for a moment.
McCay wants to control from the top but Peevor keeps moving.
McCay missing there with some ground and pound from the guard.
McCay pushes down on Peevor's leg and manages to get into half guard.
Peevor is not content to let McCay control the position.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Peevor wants to get back to full guard.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.


Peevor clinches but McCay breaks the clinch

and McCay counters with a nice double leg into guard.

McCay stands up from Peevor's guard - McCay perhaps looking for a knockout.

McCay darts in and clinches Peevor up against the cage.

McCay manages to pull guard. Let's see whether he can land a sub off his back.

Peevor has his takedown stuffed

and McCay counters with a takedown into side control.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
McCay in side control, trying to ground and pound but not landing this time.
You can see the frustration on Peevor's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.
McCay tries to land with some ground and pound but misses.
Peevor manages to land a sweep and he's now on top! Lovely Jiu Jitsu!
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

McCay regains full guard, whilst avoiding punches from Peevor.
Peevor trying to control the position from guard on top but McCay is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
McCay looking to hit a scissor sweep but Peevor is one step ahead there.
Peevor is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
Peevor stands and throws McCay's legs to the side, diving into side control.

A lull in the action here as Peevor stalls from top position.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if McCay can do anything to dispel that myth.
McCay takes a nasty elbow to the side of the head.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Robert McCay showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.

OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action. So, we enter the final round. Let's see if either fighter can bring us a finish, or whether we're going to the judges scorecards.


McCay shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Peevor pinned against the cage. Peevor gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.

and Peevor counters with a lovely shot to the body.

Peevor decides to pull guard.
Peevor utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.
Peevor throws some sloppy strikes off his back.
Peevor is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.

Peevor postures up and decides to stand up, from the half guard. The ref calls for McCay to stand up.

Peevor fails to land the takedown.
McCay will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.

Peevor scores a trip takedown into side control. Nice.
Peevor tries to cartwheel into mount but he doesn't manage it.
Peevor laying and praying for a moment but McCay takes advantage and regains half guard.

That's two minutes gone in the round.

McCay kicks off Peevor and gets to his feet.
Peevor fails with an attempt to clinch.
McCay throws a right high kick that is partially blocked by Peevor.
Peevor shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says McCay as he avoids it easily.

and Peevor counters with a shoot takedown. McCay fights it but they end up in guard.
McCay can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Peevor controls the pace.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
McCay controls Peevor momentarily but Peevor frees himself.
Peevor pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. McCay is keeping the position for now.
Peevor is looking to advance position but McCay has hit a scissor sweep - now he's on top in mount!

That's four minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Peevor tries to reverse the position but McCay maintains control.
McCay lands a big shot there that rocks Peevor but he's holding on and managing to survive for now.
McCay with shots to the head and body - Peevor looks very uncomfortable down there.
McCay trying to control but Peevor is having none of it.
McCay avoids the attempt from Peevor to control.
McCay landing strikes from the mount and Peevor is in trouble!

And that's the end of the fight!
Connor Peevor showed his dominance in that final round.
Well McCay has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
