Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Jake Johnson (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Skippy McGee (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Skippy McGee is the more experienced fighter, so let's see if that makes a difference tonight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Jake Johnson!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Skippy McGee!
The judges for this bout are Hugh Johnson, Donatello Bradman and Eliza Hachem.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Johnson misses with a takedown attempt - McGee sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.
Jake Johnson seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

McGee lands a left and a right that send Johnson crashing to the mat, dazed. McGee thinks about following him to the mat but decides to wave him back up to his feet!


It looks like Jake Johnson has been cut.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
McGee fails with the takedown
and Johnson counters with a kick to the head that grazes his opponent. McGee is lucky that one didn't land flush.
McGee moves in looking to clinch but Johnson pushes him off.
McGee doesn't manage to clinch there - Johnson circles away.
Johnson stuffs the takedown attempt from McGee. McGee gets slowly back to his feet.
McGee looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Johnson is fending him off so far but McGee persists. Nope, Johnson circles away and we're back to standing.
Jake Johnson has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Skippy McGee.

McGee scores a trip takedown into side control. Nice.
The referee asks McGee politely if he wouldn't mind getting on with it and actually doing something. McGee prefers to stall for the moment though.
You can see the frustration on Johnson's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.
Johnson is going to have to think about doing something other than just controlling because McGee is managing to avoid having the position dictated to him.

McGee wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Johnson, who protects the arm well.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
McGee is pausing for a moment. What's he doing? It looks like he's clearing his nose. Oh dude! He's shot a load of snot all down Johnson's shoulder. That is not cool.
McGee trying to control the action but Johnson is working from the bottom.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
McGee might have to switch it up a bit here because his efforts to control Johnson kaven't been going to plan, at least at the current moment in time.
Johnson is looking to reverse the position.
McGee cracks Johnson with a big elbow.
Johnson takes a couple of big shots there - the referee warns him that he has to defend himself better.

Johnson tries to improve position but can't.

McGee has had enough of the ground for now and decides to stand.
A head kick from Johnson lands but McGee takes it in his stride.

McGee fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Johnson, pushing him back against the cage.
McGee tries to pull guard but can't drag his opponent to the mat. Johnson just stands there and leans against the cage.

McGee pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.
Johnson circles away from the clinch attempt.
Johnson wants to clinch.
Johnson defends well against a solid takedown attempt from McGee.
McGee fails with an attempt to clinch.
Johnson scores with a slapping inside leg kick.

McGee shoots in but Johnson avoids the takedown attempt easily.

Johnson scores with a nice takedown into half guard. Let's see what he's got on the ground.
Johnson wants to pass to mount but McGee is defending the position.
McGee is doing well to control the position and prevent Johnson from advancing to side control.
McGee flails away from the bottom but he's not doing any damage.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

McGee is looking for a sweep. Johnson is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.


McGee tries to close the distance and clinch but Johnson swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.

and McGee cracks him with a counter punch right on the button.

McGee prevents Johnson from getting back to his feet.
McGee tries to free his leg and advance position but Johnson is retaining full guard.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
McGee sitting in guard, not really doing much.
Let's hope that McGee has the urge to step up the pace any second now because for the last 15 or 20 seconds he's just been holding on tight.
McGee stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Johnson swivels though and keeps the full guard.

McGee drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and McGee jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.
Johnson keeping moving, preventing McGee from controlling successfully.
Johnson can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as McGee controls the pace.
Johnson knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for McGee on the ground.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.

Johnson throws the overhand right but ducks down into a quick takedown attempt. McGee was covering up waiting for the punch and Johnson finishes the takedown easily into guard.
McGee is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.
McGee is taking a breather. Johnson says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

Skippy McGee showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.

McGee has managed to clinch.
McGee tries to take the fight to the ground by pulling guard but can't manage it.

McGee ties up his opponent against the cage and manages to drag the fight down to the ground. McGee no doubt will be looking to work submissions from his guard.

McGee manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Johnson manages to get himself to full guard.

McGee is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
McGee wants to pass the guard but Johnson is keeping the position.

Johnson throws a head kick that misses

and McGee counters with a shoot takedown. Johnson fights it but they end up in guard.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.
Johnson is trying to control the position from the bottom.
McGee not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up.

McGee gets to his feet. Johnson looking to butt scoot but the ref puts an end to that. On your feet son!

Johnson keeping a good distance there, avoiding the body shot.
McGee closes this distance looking for a takedown but Johnson circles away.
McGee wants to clinch but Johnson slips to the side

and Johnson counters with a driving takedown into guard. Nice work there by Johnson.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
McGee manages to land a sweep and now he's in mount on top!
Johnson is looking to get to half guard.
Johnson tries to control the position but McGee now has his back.

And that's the end of the fight!
Skippy McGee comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well McGee has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
