PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Knuckle Samwich (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Al Astra (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Knuckle Samwich!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Al Astra!
The judges for this bout are Frank Dennis, Wesley Smith and Gwen Towbar.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Samwich goes for a high kick. It partially lands.
Astra misses the jab.

Samwich darts in and lands a nice takedown into half guard.
Astra gets back to full guard.
Samwich preventing the sweep.
Astra trying to control the position.
Astra trying to punch from his back but it's not doing any damage.
Astra not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.
Samwich controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling.
Samwich won't allow Astra to sweep him here.

That's one minute gone in the round.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fight is doing enough on the ground.
Astra misses with a low kick.

Excellent takedown into side control there by Samwich.
Astra is not content to let Samwich control the position.
Astra is looking for a sweep.
Samwich wants to lay and pray for a moment but Astra keeps working.
Astra is sneaking out the side here. He's bucked Samwich off and has taken his back!
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Samwich looks to control his opponent's hands but he's not mananging it at the moment.
Samwich tries to escape the position - he's now mounted. Is that better or worse? Hard to tell!
Samwich stops Astra from taking his back. Still, being mounted isn't any better.

That's two minutes gone in the round.

Astra has control of Samwich's right arm, working for a kimura. It's a bit of a token attempt though and Samwich regains control of the situation pretty easily.
Astra looks gassed!
Samwich is in a horrible position here, under a barrage of strikes, he's managing to avoid any damage.
Samwich throwing punches from his back but nothing is landing.

Astra goes for an armbar but Samwich turns quickly into his guard - lovely anticipation from Samwich.
Samwich wants to control from the top but Astra keeps moving.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Astra working a defensive guard here.
Samwich slows down the pace of the fight, as he sits in guard.

That's three minutes gone in the round.

Astra looking for submissions off his back, moving his hips, looking for an opening.
Astra being controlled here, momentarily.
Samwich lands a couple of elbows.
Samwich wants to control from the top but Astra keeps moving.
Samwich is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control.
Astra should think about turning a few of those tyres round his middle into muscle if he wants people to take him seriously as an athlete.

Samwich preventing the sweep.
Astra is trying to keep Samwich in close.

Astra looking for submissions from the bottom but instead Samwich passes into side control.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Samwich gets to mount! Astra was on the offensive and wasn't defending properly.
Astra tries to lock up and control but Samwich gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away.
Astra is looking to get to half guard.
Astra wants to control but Samwich is having none of it.
Astra keeping his composure momentarily, calmly looking to get back to half guard.
Astra wants to improve position but instead he's given up his back.
Samwich has the hooks in. Astra is trying to push off one leg but he has to do so cautiously to avoid being submitted.
Samwich doesn't have the hooks in and Astra manages to turn into his guard.
Astra tries to free his leg and advance position but Samwich is retaining full guard.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Knuckle Samwich dominated that round.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.


Nice body kick from Samwich.

Samwich rushes Astra and pushes him back against the cage in a clinch.
Astra has hold of a leg and is looking for a trip takedown. Samwich avoids it nicely though and we remain in the clinch.
Samwich wants a takedown.
Astra tries to score a body lock takedown but Samwich shows good agility there to stay on his feet.

Samwich breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
Knuckle Samwich is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Samwich changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Astra tries to avoid it but Samwich manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Astra to the ground. Astra escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
Al Astra seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Astra tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Samwich paws at him with a jab and circles away.
Astra shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Samwich as he jumps to the side.
Knuckle Samwich has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Al Astra.
Astra uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by Samwich.

Samwich shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Astra's guard.
Samwich wants to control from the top but Astra keeps moving.
Astra controls Samwich momentarily but Samwich frees himself.
Samwich pushing down on Astra's thigh, trying to pass to half guard. He's managed it... Nice work.

Samwich escapes and gets back to his feet.
A nice combination there by Samwich.
Astra is breathing heavily.
Samwich with a hook.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Astra shoots in but doesn't get the takedown
and Samwich counters with a head kick. That will keep Astra thinking before he tries any more sloppy attacks!

Samwich closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming Astra to the mat! Astra manages to get full guard.

Astra has his foot on Samwich's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Samwich works his way back into a safe position though.

Samwich is trying to tuck his arms in to keep them safe but Astra has managed to isolate one of them and has got a loose triangle. Samwich is looking to defend but Astra has done well to lock his legs together - this could be big trouble for Samwich! Astra pulls down on the head and a little smile comes across his face - he knows he's got it. Yep, Samwich taps out and this one is all over!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:32 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Triangle). Al Astra!
