PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Donyell Walker (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Simon Fontaine (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Walker comes into the arena with King of Kings-Motorhead blaring out of the sound system. The crowd seem to be enjoying Fontaine's choice of entrance music: War ensemble. The atmosphere really building for this one as we go over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Donyell Walker!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 6 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Simon Fontaine!
The judges for this bout are Yves DeLean, Dillan Fox and Trevor Gratis.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Fontaine takes a push kick to the midsection and stumbles backwards.
Fontaine will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.

Walker closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard.
Fontaine pushes Walker off looking to stand but Walker dives back in and keeps control.
Fontaine is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
Walker seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Fontaine does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.
Walker wants to pass to mount but Fontaine is defending the position.

Walker is working for a kimura but Fontaine is defending it quite comfortably.

Walker is looking for a kimura but he's never going to get it from there.
Fontaine wants to improve his position but Walker is controlling well.

Walker is working for a submission of some sort.
Walker is breathing heavily.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
The fight stays on the outside here - Fontaine looks like he's thinking about clinching though.

Fontaine dips down and scores with a jab to the body.

Fontaine scores a takedown into full mount!

Both fighters really going for it on the ground here!
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Fontaine lands a big shot there that rocks Walker but he's holding on and managing to survive for now.
Walker in a bad spot here, taking shots to the head.

Walker tries to hold on but Fontaine pushes him away.
The referee warns Walker that he has to improve his position here as he takes two more clean shots to the head.
Fontaine is still in mount, landing shots to his trapped opponent. Walker can't stay in a position like this for much longer.
Fontaine lands a couple of nice shots there from mount.
Walker working to try and regain half guard.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
Fontaine landing punches.
Fontaine lands a big elbow.
Walker gets back to half guard.

Walker is looking to sinch up a guillotine here but Fontaine pulls his head out easily.

Walker actively working from the bottom here.
Fontaine really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Walker. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

Fontaine lands with an elbow from half guard - that looked like it hurt.
Walker is trying to control but can't.

Walker is looking to sinch up a guillotine here but Fontaine pulls his head out easily.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.

Walker darts in and clinches Fontaine up against the cage.

Walker tightens his grip and picks Fontaine up, before dumping him to the ground. Fontaine manages to land in guard.
Fontaine is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

Walker gets to his feet - Fontaine follows without any prompting.
Fontaine shoots and misses

and Walker counters by moving into the clinch. Good anticipation by Walker.
Fontaine tries to land knees in the clinch but Walker avoids the damage to the body.
Fontaine tries to pull guard but can't drag his opponent to the mat. Walker just stands there and leans against the cage.
Fontaine prevents a takedown attempt there.
Fontaine looks like he'd prefer to be striking at range right now.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Fontaine fails to pull guard.
Donyell Walker has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Simon Fontaine.
Walker has Fontaine pressed up against the cage and is working for takedown. Fontaine manages to improve position though and keeps the fight standing.

Walker jumps guard and drags Fontaine to the mat. He's obviously going to be looking for submissions off his back.

Fontaine postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.

Walker has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Fontaine can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Walker wants to sweep here but Fontaine controlling him for the moment.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Fontaine pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Walker is keeping the position for now.
Walker manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Fontaine manages to get himself to full guard.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close round but Simon Fontaine will probably get the nod.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.


Walker throws a body kick that sends a sickening thudding noise reverberating around the arena.
Fontaine misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out.

Walker shoots in with a lovely double leg takedown. Fontaine manages to land in full guard to minimise the damage.

Walker thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.
Fontaine looking to sweep here. No luck so far.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Walker is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there.
Walker won't allow Fontaine to sweep him here.
Walker wants to pass the guard but Fontaine is keeping the position.
Fontaine wants to stand up but Walker is controlling him.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Fontaine is persisting with the attempt to improve his position.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.

Walker shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in full mount! That's better than Walker was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure!

Walker moves to the back position.
Walker has Fontaine flattened out and is raining down punches.

Walker looking for the rear naked choke. And he's got it! Fontaine taps!
