The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
KwonDo moves away from the strike by Ruten.
Ruten fails to land with the punch combination there - jab, cross, hook, miss, miss, miss.
Ruten throws a hook but KwonDo blocks it.
Ruten misses with an uppercut.
KwonDo slips under a jab.
KwonDo fakes and then throws a beautiful body shot. Ruten looks a bit winded and takes a step backwards to take a breath.

It looks like Rex KwonDo has been cut.
Ruten lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but KwonDo circles away quickly and effectively.
Vladmir Ruten seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
KwonDo slips a jab from Ruten.
KwonDo fakes and then throws a beautiful body shot. Ruten looks a bit winded and takes a step backwards to take a breath.
Ruten takes a punch right to his stomach. That took the wind out of him momentarily.

Ruten gets taken down but at least he's managed to land in guard.
We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
KwonDo lands a nice shot whilst sitting in his opponent's guard.
KwonDo works over Ruten with some ground and pound from guard.
KwonDo postures up in Ruten's guard and throws a big left but Ruten blocks it.
Ruten knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for KwonDo on the ground.
KwonDo working in close now, lands a nice elbow to the side of Ruten's head.
KwonDo landing with the ground and pound.
Ruten wants to get back to his feet but KwonDo is in a dominant position and won't allow it.
Ruten is breathing heavily.

KwonDo looking to sit in guard and control but Ruten gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.

KwonDo has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Ruten can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.
KwonDo is trying to keep Ruten in close.
KwonDo tries to land a sweep but no joy.
Ruten throwing strikes from guard but KwonDo blocks nicely.
KwonDo has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.
KwonDo manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Ruten manages to get himself to full guard.
KwonDo postures up and lands a big shot to Ruten's brow.

Ruten wants to sweep here but KwonDo controlling him for the moment.
Ruten will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.

KwonDo stands up over Ruten, holding his feet. He dives back in and lands a decent shot to the head.

KwonDo makes a bit of distance and scores with some ground and pound, still in guard.
Ruten is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
Ruten on his back here. We all know that wrestlers don't like being on their back so let's see if Ruten tries to get out of the position.
KwonDo slips effortlessly into side control - very nice.

KwonDo grinds an elbow into Ruten's temple.
KwonDo scores with a couple of nice shots to the head there. The referee takes a look at Ruten to see if he's OK.

KwonDo looks up at the clock and then as Ruten takes his cue and looks up at the clock too, KwonDo smacks him right in the chops with a big elbow! How rude!

Ruten is positioning himself to get back to half guard.
KwonDo cracks Ruten with a big right hand but Ruten just smiles back at him and invites him to have another go.

KwonDo tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no KwonDo has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!
KwonDo looks up at the clock and then as Ruten takes his cue and looks up at the clock too, KwonDo smacks him right in the chops with a big elbow! How rude!

KwonDo scores with a couple of short elbows.
Check out the look on KwonDo's face as he threw that strike - that's one determined fighter!

KwonDo thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead.
Ruten tries to get back to half guard but can't.
Ruten throws a couple of strikes even though he's not really in a good position to do so.
The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!

KwonDo has an Americana. Ruten didn't react quickly enough there and he's in big trouble now! He tries to squirm out but is forced to tap! KwonDo is delighted and gyrates in front of the ring girls. They seem to like the attention - it'll be interesting to see if KwonDo hooks up with any of them at the after show party.
