PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Tito Sonnen (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Oskar Bergren (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Chooooooooon! I think Sonnen might be my favorite fighter, now he's come out to Mosh by Eminem. We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of London, Oskar Bergren!
The judges for this bout are Chris Edwards, James Glass and Richard Clark.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Bergren tries to bum rush Sonnen with a series of wild strikes but Sonnen uses good footwork to avoid the assault.
Bergren avoids the clinch attempt nicely.
Sonnen moves in looking to clinch but Bergren pushes him off.
Bergren keeps the fight on the outside.
Sonnen tries to clinch up.
Sonnen does a little shimmy and throws a leg kick. The leg kick missed by a considerable margin though, making him look a little bit silly for doing the shimmy.
A combination from Bergren does no damage.
Bergren circles away from the clinch attempt.

Bergren throws a wild combination but nothing lands.
Sonnen dodges the punch combination from Bergren.
Sonnen misses with a low kick.
Oskar Bergren seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Bergren throws a right and a left that Sonnen avoids nicely.
Sonnen takes a head kick and shrugs it off.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Sonnen shoots for a double leg takedown but Bergren sprawls well. He's pushed Sonnen's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.

Bergren throws a body punch but Sonnen moves out of range.
Bergren lands a really nice looking cross but Sonnen seems unphased.

Excellent takedown into side control there by Sonnen.
Bergren is working hard to escape and get back to his feet. After a battle for position, Sonnen asserts his dominance and retains side control.
You can see the frustration on Bergren's face as Sonnen controls the position.
Bergren pushes Sonnen away and creates a bit of space to escape. He's almost out here... but no, Sonnen gets a good hold of his legs and remains firmly in side control.

Bergren is pushing Sonnen's head away, looking to escape. Sonnen manages to hold on to the position though.

Sonnen is trying to move to mount but Bergren reverses beautifully and ends up in Sonnen's guard.

The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
Sonnen is edging up against the cage. He's using the cage to get back to his feet. Nice work there - the fighters are clinched.
A frustrated look appears on Bergren's face as he tries to break the clinch.

Sonnen has a body lock and is looking for a takedown. Bergren is bouncing around trying to prevent the takedown and somehow he has indeed managed to stay on his feet.

Bergren connects with a looping left hand that seems like it dazed Sonnen momentarily.
Bergren throws out a powerful jab.

and Sonnen counters with a takedown into full mount! That could mean trouble for Bergren!

Bergren's corner are shouting for him to stand up but that's bad cornering - how is he meant to stand up when he's mounted? He should be looking to improve his position on the ground before trying to stand back up.
Sonnen is trying to control here but Bergren has managed to regain half guard.

Sonnen seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Bergren does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.

Sonnen decides he's had enough of the ground and stands up.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Some wild striking there from Bergren.

Sonnen feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.
Bergren wants to stand but Sonnen is controlling the position.

Sonnen has decided he wants to stand but the closed guard of Bergren is proving hard to escape from.

Bergren throws a nice looking combination but Sonnen bobs and weaves to avoid any damage.
Bergren feints with a shoulder and throws a nice leg kick to Sonnen's calf.

and Bergren counters with a three punch combo that has Sonnen backing up. Sonnen nods at Bergren to acknowledge the strikes.
No joy there for Bergren, who threw a few shots but didn't land.
Sonnen tries to close the distance and clinch up but Bergren swats him away and circles back towards the center.
Bergren misses with a jab and misses with a cross straight after too.
Bergren throws a combination but comes up with nothing but fresh air.
Sonnen takes a really solid shot there but just smiles back and shrugs his shoulders.

Sonnen tries to clinch but Bergren moves out of range.
Sonnen wants to clinch up but Bergren keeps it at a distance.

Sonnen closes the distance and clinches up with Bergren, looking for a takedown. Sonnen pushes Bergren against the cage but Bergren circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.

Well I reckon that's a shut out for Sonnen, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
