Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Nobuhiro Nakamura (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Frank Mir (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Nakamura comes to the cage accompanied by Breathe. Nobuhiro Nakamura could well score a knockout today. He has the power to get to Frank Mir's chin.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 7 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Nobuhiro Nakamura!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 12 - 5 - 2, fighting out of Montreal, Frank Mir!
The judges for this bout are Steve Smith, Trevor Gratis and Gregory Folan.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Nakamura tries a head kick but it misses.
Mir takes a swing at Nakamura's ribcage but misses.
Nakamura lands a glancing blow to the side of Mir's head.
Nakamura closes the distance and takes a jab right on the nose as he does so.
Mir misses with a body shot. Nice footwork from Nakamura.
A combination from Nakamura does no damage.
No luck for Mir with that takedown attempt.
A head kick misses from Nakamura.
Nakamura swings and misses with a hook to the body.
Mir scores with a jab.
Mir displays some good footwork, moving neatly out of range as Nakamura throws out the jab.
Nakamura throws a low kick but his opponent is out of range.
Nakamura fails to land with a series of punches.
Mir takes a shot right to the liver - Bas would have been proud of that punch.
Nakamura misses with a hook. Mir ducked under it nicely.
Mir darts in and out, connecting with a jab.
Mir looks shocked there as he takes a right hand to the temple.


It looks like Frank Mir has been cut.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!

Nakamura throws a low kick, looking for Mir's leg but Mir calmly moves out of range.

Mir scores with a takedown into Nakamura's guard.
Nakamura is trying to keep Mir in close.
Mir passes into half guard.
Mir is looking to take a break and control but Nakamura is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Mir prevents Nakamura from standing back up.
Nakamura is looking to improve his position.
Mir seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Nakamura does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.

Nakamura has Mir pulled in close to control his posture.
Mir pushes down on Nakamura's leg and manages to get into half guard.

Nakamura manages to escape and get back to his feet!

Nakamura looks to score with a combo but nothing lands.

Mir works the jab nicely.
Nakamura throws a leg kick but he was too far away and it doesn't land.
Nakamura missing with a left hand there. Mir was out of range so wasted energy throwing that one.
Nobuhiro Nakamura seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Mir changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Nakamura tries to avoid it but Mir manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Nakamura to the ground. Nakamura escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.

Nakamura is trying to escape back to his feet but Mir uses the scramble to pass into side control.

As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Mir tries to advance to mount but Nakamura denies him.

The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.

Mir drops down and drives through with a powerful takedown into guard.
Mir slips effortlessly into side control - very nice.
You can see the frustration on Nakamura's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.
Mir looking to control but instead Nakamura has slipped a leg in, to regain half guard.
Mir trying to mount his opponent but Nakamura defends it.

The two fighters exchange a few words. I couldn't hear what they were saying but maybe it's more fun if you make it up yourself. Mir connects with a nice short shot to Nakamura's temple.
Nakamura wants to improve his position but Mir is controlling well.
Nakamura is trying to maintain the position but Mir is very close to passing his half guard.
Nakamura is refusing to be controlled, as Mir sits in half guard.

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.
The referee calls for the fighters to work.
Mir wants to pass to mount but Nakamura is defending the position.
Mir thows a wild elbow that connects with the canvas.
Nakamura trying to control but Mir postures up.
Mir performing his best blanket impression for a moment.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fighter is doing enough on the ground.
Nakamura throws a combination but comes up with nothing but fresh air.
Nakamura avoids the body shot from Mir.
Mir moves out of range of the leg kick from Nakamura.

Nakamura swings and misses with a shot to the body
and Mir makes him pay by landing a nice hook to the body before moving out of range.
Mir swings for the body but Nakamura moves out of range.

Mir shoots in for a takedown and gets it.
Nakamura is concentrating on defense, preventing Mir from advancing position.
Mir prevents Nakamura from improving his position.

Nakamura won't allow Mir to pass to mount.
Nakamura is looking to escape.
Mir throwing shots but they're hitting the canvas more than the man.
Nakamura is looking to get full guard. It looks like he might be successful but at the last minute Mir jumps into side control!
Nakamura manages to get back to half guard.
Mir is taking a breather. Nakamura says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Frank Mir showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.

The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action! This is the final round!

Nakamura is avoiding any damage by keeping wrist control.
Nakamura wants to stand up but Mir is controlling him.
Mir controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling.

Mir with a couple of shots to the head there. Not particularly brutal.
Mir slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
Nakamura is trying to control the position but Mir postures up.
Frank Mir has got the better of the ground game so far.

Mir drops back, looking for a kneebar! Nakamura looks panicked! The fighters roll across the mat, one looking to finish, one looking to escape. Nakamura looks to have wriggled free... Yes, he's got his leg free and he's dived into side control! Good work there from Nakamura!

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Mir wants to control but Nakamura postures up.
Nakamura throwing strikes but Mir manages to buck up and roll into a nice reversal - now he's on top in side control!
Nakamura regains half guard there - taking advantage of Mir's attempt to lay and pray for a moment.
Nakamura wants to get back to full guard.
Mir thows a wild elbow that connects with the canvas.

Mir is trying to work for a kimura but Nakamura is defending well.
Mir is working hard to pass the guard. He's done it - he's now in full mount! Trouble for Nakamura!

And that's the end of the fight!
Frank Mir comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I think Mir has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
