Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Garrett Day (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Joe Calzaghe (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Joe Calzaghe told me before the fight that he's been watching a lot of DVDs so let's see if that helps him in this one! I can't wait to find out!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
3 - 1 - 1, fighting out of Los Angeles, Garrett Day! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
5 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Joe Calzaghe! The judges for this bout are Timothy Bukovac, and Frank Antenori.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Calzaghe ducks under a wild hook from Day. Calzaghe keeping a good distance there, avoiding the body shot.
Day waving his hands out in front of him, looking to distract Calzaghe. Day throws a big shot that misses. A bone on bone clash there as Calzaghe blocks the leg kick.
Day throws a hook but Calzaghe avoids it easily. Day lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Calzaghe circles away quickly and effectively. Calzaghe is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two. Day misses with a double jab.
Day misses the jab. Day shoots for a takedown but Calzaghe saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily. Calzaghe moves away from the strike by Day. Day chopped to the floor by a nice leg kick but he springs right back up before Calzaghe can pounce on him.
Day shoots in but no luck this time. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Day pulls out of a head kick attempt.
Day throws a hook but Calzaghe avoids it easily. Calzaghe getting the better of the striking in that exchange. Day fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Calzaghe manages to avoid it. Calzaghe scores with a reasonable looking shot to the body. Day doesn't seem bothered though. Day is breathing heavily. Day will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.
That's one minute gone in the round. Calzaghe throws a right and a left that Day avoids nicely. Calzaghe closes the distance and presses his opponent up against the cage. Calzaghe manages to get underhooks and slows down the pace for a moment.
Calzaghe lands with a left to the head. Calzaghe breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat. Day throws a predictable looking body shot
and Calzaghe counters into the clinch. Nicely done. Day has Calzaghe pressed up against the cage and is working for takedown. Calzaghe manages to improve position though and keeps the fight standing. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Garrett Day. That's going to take a lot out of him. Calzaghe pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat. Calzaghe lands a leg kick. The shin dug right into the meat of the thigh. Calzaghe moves into the clinch successfully.

That's two minutes gone in the round. Day has a body lock and is looking for a takedown. Calzaghe is bouncing around trying to prevent the takedown and somehow he has indeed managed to stay on his feet. Calzaghe lands a shoulder strike. Day drops down for a takedown but doesn't get it.
Day is working for a takedown up against the cage. He can't get it on this occasion though. Calzaghe controlling the action here for a moment.
Day jumps guard but Calzaghe stands there with Day around his waist. Day gives up and drops back to his feet. We remain in the clinch.
Calzaghe breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat. Calzaghe cracks Day with a hook to the jaw. Both fighters smile at eachother and high-five before getting back down to business. Calzaghe scores with a nice takedown into half guard. Let's see what he's got on the ground. The crowd are loving this. Great action here. Calzaghe is taking a breather. Day says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something. Day tries to get to full guard but Calzaghe has control of the leg.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Calzaghe slows the pace down in half guard. Day wants to control but Calzaghe is keeping busy.
That's four minutes gone in the round. The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena. Day is refusing to be controlled, as Calzaghe sits in half guard. Calzaghe works his way into full mount! Day wants to control but Calzaghe is having none of it. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Joe Calzaghe dominated that round. That's time! Back to the action!
Day fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Calzaghe sprawls well initially but Day persists and gets the takedown into half guard. Day stops Calzaghe from getting back to his feet.
Day is looking for a kimura but Calzaghe is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Day to get the leverage. Day tries to stand but his hand is stuck under Calzaghe. Day thows a huge punch but Calzaghe dodges it nicely.
Day working to pass to mount. He's got his hand pressing down on Calzaghe's thigh. Calzaghe counters though and makes it back to full guard. Calzaghe preventing the ground and pound from doing any damage. Calzaghe pulls Day in close to his closed guard and prevents Day from doing any damage or advancing position.
That's one minute gone in the round. Day drops back, looking for a kneebar! Calzaghe looks panicked! The fighters roll across the mat, one looking to finish, one looking to escape. Calzaghe looks to have wriggled free... Yes, he's got his leg free and he's dived into side control! Good work there from Calzaghe! Day tries to buck Calzaghe off but Calzaghe is having none of it. Day is trying to get back to his feet. Day is trying to improve his position. Day might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it. Calzaghe working the ground and pound from side control. Day sneaks back into half guard. Day is looking to control Calzaghe's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Day avoid being mounted? Calzaghe stalling. Calzaghe looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Day with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Day looking to work for a kimura from the bottom. Day wants to get back to his feet.
Day has a hand on Calzaghe's thigh, trying to get back to full guard. Calzaghe takes advantage of the position though and mounts him!
That's four minutes gone in the round. The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight. Calzaghe dominating with strikes here. Day tries to hold on but Calzaghe pushes him away. Day is desperately trying to improve his position but Calzaghe has a good base and remains in mount. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Day bucks up and manages to get a nice reversal! He's in guard on the top - nicely done! The crowd thankful this round is nearly over. Day throwing strikes but missing. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
That was a close second round but I would say that Garrett Day will probably get the nod. That's time! Day's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight. This is the final round!

and Calzaghe counters with a driving takedown into guard. Nice work there by Calzaghe. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Calzaghe pushes down on Day's leg and manages to get into half guard. Calzaghe prevents Day from improving his position. Day wants to get back to full guard but Calzaghe has passed into side control.
That's one minute gone in the round. Day tries to lock up and control but Calzaghe gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away. Day keeping his composure momentarily, calmly looking to get back to half guard.
Day wants to control but Calzaghe is having none of it.
That's two minutes gone in the round. The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so. Day bucks up and manages to get a nice reversal! He's in guard on the top - nicely done! Day pushing down on Calzaghe's thigh, trying to pass to half guard. He's managed it... Nice work. Day is working for a kimura here but Calzaghe manages to reverse the position and he's now in Day's guard.

Day is looking to stand up but Calzaghe isn't so interested in that idea.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Calzaghe won't allow Day to sweep him here. Calzaghe controls from within his opponent's guard. Day not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.
Calzaghe slips nicely into half guard. Joe Calzaghe has got the better of the ground game so far.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless. Day wants to get back to full guard. Calzaghe trying to control the action but Day is working from the bottom. Day wants to get back to full guard. Day is working for an escape here. He's hooked one of Calzaghe's legs and he's managed to sneak out and take Calzaghe's back! Day throwing lazy shots from the back mount that aren't doing any damage.
And that's the end of the fight! Joe Calzaghe comfortably won the final round on my scorecard. Well Calzaghe has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
