PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Raw Power (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Divine Hand (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Hand has chosen Mafia-Streets as his entrance music. Divine Hand told me before the fight that he's been watching a lot of DVDs so let's see if that helps him in this one! I can't wait to find out!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Raw Power!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Divine Hand!
The judges for this bout are Daniel Franklin, Robert Twigg and Cecil Peabody.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Hand throws a nice looking combination but Power bobs and weaves to avoid any damage.
Hand throws a right hand that Power ducks under and follows up with a left that Power also avoids with ease.
No luck for Power with that takedown attempt.

Hand looking to shoot here. He's gone for it and he's landed a takedown into mount! Oh, that's bad for Power!
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Power is desperately trying to improve his position but Hand has a good base and remains in mount.
Hand misses with a series of strikes from mount. He'll no doubt be working on his ground and pound when he gets back to the gym.
Power is looking to improve his position but Hand isn't that keen on the idea.
Power tries to hold on but Hand pushes him away.
Power is in a horrible position here. Hand smacks him with another shot as he tries to escape the position.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Power gets back to half guard.
Hand has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.
Hand prevents Power from improving his position.
Hand tries to stand but his hand is stuck under Power.
Power is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.

Hand is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Power defends it well.
Power is trying to get back to full guard.
Power regains full guard. Nicely done.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Hand trying to control but Power is working from the bottom.
Power looking to control the pace of the fight rather than finish it.
Hand stays in close to Power's body and controls the position.
Hand stopping the sweep attempt from Power.
Power lands a beautiful switch and he's in full mount! That could spell trouble for Hand!
Power pausing momentarily but resumes with a couple of decent strikes that do a bit of damage.

Power goes for an armbar but Hand turns quickly into his guard - lovely anticipation from Hand.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Power working a defensive guard here.
Hand wants to control from the top but Power keeps moving.
Power has his hands on Hand's head, controlling the position.
Hand trying to control but Power is working from the bottom.
Hand loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry.
Power is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
Power on his back here. We all know that wrestlers don't like being on their back so let's see if Power tries to get out of the position.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.

Hand gets taken down but at least he's managed to land in guard.
Power is breathing heavily.
Power trying to control but Hand is working from the bottom.
Hand is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Power is controlling him.
Hand is trying to keep Power in close.
Hand working the defensive guard well to avoid strikes from Power.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Raw Power dominated that round.
OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.


Hand throws a series of punches but Power avoids them all with ease.
Power swats away the attempt to clinch by Hand.

Hand clinches with his opponent.
Power goes for a takedown attempt but Hand pushes him away and we're back to fighting at a distance.
Power takes a shot to the body in his stride.
Power has his takedown stuffed
and Hand counters with a good low kick that Power was not able to check.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Hand throws out a leg kick but Power moves out of range and Hand only half commits.
Hand gets his takedown attempt stuffed easily

and Power counters with a nice double leg into side control. Hand won't be happy with that.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Hand is trying to escape the position but Power is controlling the position.
Hand struggling a bit here.
Power tries to cartwheel into mount but he doesn't manage it.
Power landing with strikes to the head and body from side control.
Power wants to lay and pray for a moment but Hand keeps working.
Hand can't do much from the bottom here.
Power tries to move to full mount but Hand actually manages to regain half guard.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Power uses his free foot to push down on Hand's thigh. Eventually he works his other foot free and he's advanced to mount - this is trouble for Hand.
Power lands a heavy elbow.
Power lands a big shot there that rocks Hand but he's holding on and managing to survive for now.
Power is landing with some decent strikes but Hand is trying to advance his position so the referee is letting the fight continue.

Power looks like he's working for a submission but he's not found anything just yet.
Hand is wriggling around trying to escape.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Power trying to control but he's not successful this time.
Power looking to finish Hand with some ground and pound. This is bad for Hand!
Hand is squirming around, avoiding Power's attempts to control the action.
Power controlling his opponent.

Power goes for an armbar but he's fallen flat on his backside there and now Hand is on top in guard.
Hand distracts Power with his right hand and drops a big elbow with his other arm.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Power utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Hand accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.
Power has his hands on Hand's head, controlling the position.
Hand thows a big elbow that misses.
Hand won't allow Power to sweep him here.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fighter is doing enough on the ground.
Power shoots and misses
and Hand counters with a nice body shot.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Raw Power. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Power doesn't succeed with the takedown

and Hand decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Power's guard.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Power has a closed guard, preventing Hand from standing up.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Raw Power dominated that second round.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action. Let's hear some noise people - this is the final round!


Hand lands with a kick to the temple. Power shrugs as if to say "is that all you've got?"
Hand tries to clinch there but Power circles away.
Power tries for a takedown but Hand circles away easily
and Hand counters with a left and a right that stings Power.
Hand tries to clinch but Power moves away

and Power counters with a shoot takedown. Hand fights it but they end up in guard.
Power tries to free his leg and advance position but Hand is retaining full guard.
Hand is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Power is trying to get back to full guard.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.
Power is refusing to be controlled, as Hand sits in half guard.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Power is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
Raw Power overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Power wants to control but Hand is keeping busy.
Hand is keen to just control but Power is a slippery customer.
Power slips a foot under and gets full guard. Nice work.
Power managing to control the position.
Power wants to sweep but no luck.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Hand with a couple of shots to the head there. Not particularly brutal.
Hand is working Power over from the guard. He should look to pass the guard and do a little more damage with these strikes.
Power is avoiding any damage by keeping wrist control.
Hand missing there with some ground and pound from the guard.
Power tries to land a sweep but no joy.
Power pulls Hand in close to prevent any damage.
Power has controlled the position for a good 20 seconds, which will no doubt be starting to frustrate his opponent.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Hand trying to control but Power is working from the bottom.
Power looking for a sweep. Not yet Power, not yet.
Hand wanted to stand there but Power had control of the position.
Power tries to land a sweep but no joy.
Hand wants to control from the top but Power keeps moving.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.
Hand is looking to clinch.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.

Power looking to shoot here. He's gone for it and he's landed a takedown into mount! Oh, that's bad for Hand!
Power trying to control but Hand is having none of it.
Power avoids the attempt from Hand to control.
Raw Power is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.
Power with shots to the head and body - Hand looks very uncomfortable down there.
Power fakes a shot to the body and cracks his opponent in the head. Nice ground and pound there!
Divine Hand has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
BOOM! Power connects with a massive shot to the dome!

And that's the end of the fight!
Raw Power showed his dominance in that final round.
Well I reckon that's a shut out for Power, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
