Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Frank Edgar (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Vincenzo Calliente (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Both fighters look fresh as a daisy as they make their way towards the cage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 8 - 4 - 0, fighting out of New York, Frank Edgar!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 7 - 11 - 0, fighting out of New York, Vincenzo Calliente!
The judges for this bout are John Roberts, Franklyn Lucas and Russell Pearce.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
A head kick misses from Calliente.
Calliente misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out.
Calliente is looking to clinch.
Edgar displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Calliente.

Calliente clinches up against the cage.
Edgar takes an elbow to the forehead.
Calliente is trying to stall.

Calliente manages to break the clinch.
Calliente wants to clinch.

Edgar closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard.
Edgar is keen to just control but Calliente is a slippery customer.
Edgar with a momentary lay and pray from half guard.
Calliente is refusing to be controlled, as Edgar sits in half guard.

Edgar throwing punches and elbows but they're not doing any damage.
Calliente is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
Edgar prevents Calliente from standing back up.
Edgar works his foot free and advances to mount.
Calliente takes a big shot to the head but keeps on trying to improve his position.
Calliente is in a horrible position here. Edgar smacks him with another shot as he tries to escape the position.
Edgar is landing with some decent strikes but Calliente is trying to advance his position so the referee is letting the fight continue.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Edgar can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Calliente is looking to escape.
Calliente takes a big shot to the head but keeps on trying to improve his position.
Edgar landing strikes from the mount and Calliente is in trouble!
Calliente is in a horrible position here. Edgar smacks him with another shot as he tries to escape the position.


Calliente is rocked!

Edgar moves into side control, trying to work for a kimura. That looks painful! Will he finish!!?? No, Calliente has worked his arm free - good work by Calliente!
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Calliente is not content to let Edgar control the position.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
An elbow from Edgar crashes against the mat.
Calliente is looking for a sweep.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Edgar is moving around in side control but his primary objective seems to be to maintain the position.
Calliente struggling a bit here.
Calliente is looking to slip a leg under and get half guard but Edgar is one step ahead and moves to full mount!

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.

Edgar moves into side control, trying to work for a kimura. That looks painful! Will he finish!!?? No, Calliente has worked his arm free - good work by Calliente!
The referee asks Edgar politely if he wouldn't mind getting on with it and actually doing something. Edgar prefers to stall for the moment though.
Edgar wants to lay and pray for a moment but Calliente keeps working.
Edgar looking to punish the body of his opponent here but Calliente is avoiding damage well.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Frank Edgar dominated that round.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!


Edgar with a lazy takedown attempt

and Calliente counters with a nice double leg into side control. Edgar won't be happy with that.

Edgar sneaks out the side door and pushes Calliente away - he's back to his feet. The crowd show their appreciation for the escape.
Edgar keeps the fight on the outside.
Edgar looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily.

and Edgar counters with a single leg into guard. Calliente didn't expect that.
Frank Edgar overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Edgar won't allow Calliente to sweep him here.
Edgar throws and elbow that misses. Calliente uses the momentum to reverse the position. He's now in Edgar's guard. Nice move by Calliente!

Calliente drops back looking for a heel hook - he quickly realises he's not going to get it but Edgar manages to dive on top of him before he can escape and now Calliente has Edgar in his guard.

Edgar has gone for a leg lock! Calliente slips out almost immediately though and dives into Edgar's guard.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Calliente trying to control the position from guard on top but Edgar is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Edgar is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Calliente is controlling him.
Calliente postures up in Edgar's guard and throws a big left but Edgar blocks it.
Edgar wants to get back to his feet but Calliente is in a dominant position and won't allow it.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
Calliente is standing up over Edgar. Edgar looks to escape but Calliente dives into side control.
Edgar trying to remain calm as Calliente controls from the top position.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.
Calliente misses with a takedown

and Edgar counters with a single leg into guard. Calliente didn't expect that.
Calliente keeping moving, preventing Edgar from controlling successfully.

Edgar trying to control the action but Calliente is working from the bottom.
Edgar tries to move into full mount but can't pass Calliente's legs.
Edgar blocks the strikes from Calliente.

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.
Edgar works a knee to the body and follows up with a nice elbow to the head.
Calliente tries to bench press Edgar off him but Edgar keeps the position.
Edgar postures up a little and throws a couple of hammerfists but they don't connect properly.

Edgar goes for an armbar! This could be all over! Wait, no, Calliente rolls with the submission and now he's on top in Edgar's guard! Nice work there by Calliente!
Calliente stands and throws Edgar's legs to the side, diving into side control.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Edgar regains half guard there - taking advantage of Calliente's attempt to lay and pray for a moment.
Calliente stops Edgar from getting back to his feet.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Frank Edgar dominated that second round.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action! This is the final round!


Calliente has his takedown stuffed

and Edgar counters with a nice double leg into half guard.

Calliente escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Edgar gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.
Edgar throwing shots from guard but he's hitting more mat than opponent.
Calliente takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.
Edgar working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage.
Edgar slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.
Edgar sneaks a leg through and gets to half guard. That was like a knife through butter how easily he passed Calliente's guard.

Edgar looking to pass the half guard. Not this time.
Calliente missing with punches from the bottom.
Edgar is looking to advance position but Calliente won't allow it.
Edgar is thwarting Calliente's attempts to control the position.
Calliente controlling the leg, holding on to half guard.

That's two minutes gone in the round.

Calliente wants to clinch but Edgar slips to the side

and Edgar counters with a shoot takedown into half guard.
Still in half guard, Edgar seems content to control.
Edgar sitting in half guard, looking to land shots. Calliente defending well though.
Calliente won't allow Edgar to pass to mount.
Edgar content to control rather than advance.
Calliente wants to get back to his feet.
Edgar is trying to control. Calliente wants to improve his position but can't escape this time.
Edgar takes a deep breath and rests his weight momentarily on top of his opponent, to control the position.
Vincenzo Calliente has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!

Edgar looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.
Calliente tries to get to full guard but Edgar has control of the leg.
Frank Edgar is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.

Edgar bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.
Calliente is not content to let Edgar control the position.

And that's the end of the fight!
Frank Edgar showed his dominance in that final round.
Well I reckon that's a shut out for Edgar, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
