PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Jeffrey Gailfus (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Matthew Delaurier (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Gailfus comes to the cage accompanied by bleed it out. Delaurier is bouncing up and down as he enters the arena, backed by Skillet-Monster. Jeffrey Gailfus has a significant reach advantage - let's see if he can make it count.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Jeffrey Gailfus!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Matthew Delaurier!
The judges for this bout are Elvis Blanc, Yves DeLean and Gregory Folan.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Delaurier keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl.
Delaurier connects with the punch.
Matthew Delaurier seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Gailfus shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Oh and he's advanced to full mount straight away.
Gailfus really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.
Gailfus throws some wild stikes that Delaurier manages to avoid easily.
Delaurier is writhing around trying to get back to his feet.
Gailfus prevents Delaurier from getting the reversal.
Delaurier is persisting with the attempt to improve his position.
Gailfus avoids the attempt from Delaurier to control.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Delaurier might have to switch it up a bit here because his efforts to control Gailfus kaven't been going to plan, at least at the current moment in time.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Delaurier is writhing around trying to get back to his feet.
Gailfus lands an elbow that was bordering on illegal but the referee lets it go with a warning.
Gailfus will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.
Delaurier is working to get back to half guard.
Delaurier is squirming around, avoiding Gailfus's attempts to control the action.
Delaurier tries to hold on but Gailfus pushes him away.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Gailfus with a couple of short strikes.

Delaurier wants to hold on but Gailfus pushes him away.
Gailfus looking to control and managing it successfully.

Gailfus wants to finish this one by submission but Delaurier is holding onto his waist, trying to prevent any attacks from Gailfus.

Gailfus wants to pass the guard but Delaurier is defending well.
Still in half guard, Gailfus seems content to control.
Gailfus is nestled in close to Delaurier, controlling him well. He's worked in a nice elbow to the side of the head as well, for good measure.
Gailfus working over Delaurier with some ground and pound. Delaurier looks like he wants out of this position, which is understandable.
Gailfus tries to pass the half guard into mount. Delaurier knows what he's doing though and prevents the attempt.

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.
Gailfus throwing shots but they're hitting the canvas more than the man.

Gailfus gets to his feet - Delaurier follows without any prompting.
Delaurier shoots and misses

and Gailfus counters with a nice double leg into side control. Delaurier won't be happy with that.
Delaurier wants to control but Gailfus postures up.
Delaurier throws a couple of strikes even though he's not really in a good position to do so.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Jeffrey Gailfus dominated that round.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.

and Gailfus counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground.

There's a bit of a scramble here and now Delaurier is on top in guard.

Gailfus is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Delaurier defends well.
Gailfus controls Delaurier momentarily but Delaurier frees himself.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Delaurier trying to control but Gailfus is working from the bottom.
Delaurier tries to stand but Gailfus is controlling from the bottom.

Delaurier avoids a guillotine attempt easily.
Gailfus pulls Delaurier in close to his closed guard and prevents Delaurier from doing any damage or advancing position.
Gailfus thows some rabbit punches from the bottom but they don't do any damage.

Gailfus wants to hit a switch here but Delaurier passes into full mount! Oh no, disaster for Gailfus there!

Delaurier lands a big shot there that rocks Gailfus but he's holding on and managing to survive for now.
Jeffrey Gailfus overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Gailfus is squirming around, avoiding Delaurier's attempts to control the action.
Delaurier unloads with some shots from mount but Gailfus bucks and avoids them well.

Gailfus on his back here. We all know that wrestlers don't like being on their back so let's see if Gailfus tries to get out of the position.
Delaurier prevents Gailfus from getting the reversal.

The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Delaurier fakes a shot to the body and cracks his opponent in the head. Nice ground and pound there!

That's time! Back to the action! This is the final round!


Delaurier gets his takedown attempt stuffed easily

and Gailfus counters into the clinch. Nicely done.
Delaurier tries to jump guard but he falls flat on his backside. Gailfus smiles and moves away.
Gailfus goes to the watering hole and comes back with a big thumbs up from the judges as he scores a three punch combo.
Good leg kick by Gailfus there. It's the ones that make that thud noise that hurt and that was an almighty thud.
Delaurier swings wildly with a couple of big hooks

and Gailfus counters with a shoot takedown into half guard.
Gailfus looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Delaurier with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position.
Gailfus wants to take a breather but Delaurier is having none of it.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.
Gailfus has freed up his trapped foot and advances to mount.

Delaurier is desperately trying to get back to half guard.
Gailfus content just to control the position here.

Gailfus swings around for an armbar but it's a sloppy attempt and Delaurier is now in Gailfus's guard. A big mistake from Gailfus there, giving up the dominant position!
Gailfus is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Gailfus looking to sweep using the butterfly guard but Delaurier puts pay to that idea as he passes nicely into half guard.
The fighters are battling for position here. Gailfus manages to regain full guard. Nice work.
Delaurier passes Gailfus's left leg - he's now in half guard.
Delaurier wants to get back to his feet.

Delaurier is trying to control the action in half guard but Gailfus is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Gailfus misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.

Delaurier drives through with a really nice takedown into side control.

Gailfus throws Delaurier to one side and escapes!
Gailfus pushes Delaurier away with a front kick.
Jeffrey Gailfus is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Delaurier shoots in for a takedown but Gailfus shows good takedown defense.
Jeffrey Gailfus has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Matthew Delaurier.

and Delaurier counters with a driving takedown into guard. Nice work there by Delaurier.
Delaurier is pushing down on Gailfus's leg trying to pass to half guard. Gailfus is fighting to maintain full guard but Delaurier has managed to sneak the leg through.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Delaurier wants to free his trapped foot but Gailfus is holding on for dear life with his legs.
Matthew Delaurier has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Jeffrey Gailfus is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.

That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Jeffrey Gailfus.
Well Gailfus has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
