Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Luke Castilano (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Patryck Mendes (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Both fighters look fresh as a daisy as they make their way towards the cage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Luke Castilano!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 2 - 0, fighting out of New York, Patryck Mendes!
The judges for this bout are Lou da Vinci, John Roberts and Reed Andrews.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Castilano bobs and weaves well there to avoid the strikes.

Mendes shoots in with a lovely double leg takedown. Castilano manages to land in full guard to minimise the damage.
Castilano looking for a sweep. Not yet Castilano, not yet.
Mendes tries to stand but Castilano is controlling from the bottom.

Mendes stands up and waves to Castilano to follow him.

Mendes changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Castilano looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Castilano gets back to half guard.
Castilano is working for an escape here. He's hooked one of Mendes's legs and he's managed to sneak out and take Mendes's back!

Castilano is looking for the choke from the back position but Mendes is controlling his hands well.

We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

Castilano is looking to finish the fight by rear naked choke. Mendes knows exactly what he's got planned though, so he's defending well. Maybe a few strikes would soften Mendes for a finish.

Mendes is displaying good submission defense - not really looking in danger of submitting to the rear naked choke at the moment. That could change in an instant of course if Castilano gets his way!

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.

Mendes slips a jab and a cross from Castilano.

Mendes shoots in for a takedown and gets it.
Castilano is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
Mendes is stalling here. Castilano is in no mood to hang around though. He's locked up a kimura from the bottom! Mendes seems to be keeping calm but he's forced to roll out of the hold and Castilano has ended up in side control on the top. Nice work.

That was a close round but I would say that Luke Castilano will probably get the nod.

Mendes is looking to clinch.

Castilano gets taken down but at least he's managed to land in guard.

Castilano has his foot on Mendes's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Mendes works his way back into a safe position though.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.

Castilano tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Mendes paws at him with a jab and circles away.
Mendes avoids a low kick by using good footwork.
Castilano lands a nice shot that snaps Mendes's head back.
Castilano lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Mendes circles away quickly and effectively.
Luke Castilano seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
Castilano doesn't manage to clinch there - Mendes circles away.

Castilano has managed to clinch.

Mendes gets double underhooks and manages to take the fight to the ground.
Mendes wanted to stand there but Castilano had control of the position.
Castilano controls Mendes momentarily but Mendes frees himself.

Castilano escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Mendes gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.
Mendes must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.
Castilano manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Mendes manages to get himself to full guard.
