PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Westminister Abbey (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jeff Flash (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Chooooooooon! I think Abbey might be my favorite fighter, now he's come out to 21 GUNS. Jeff Flash has the power to score a knockout today if he connects clean with Westminister Abbey's chin.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 2 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 2 - 0, fighting out of London, Westminister Abbey!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 3 - 0, fighting out of London, Jeff Flash!
The judges for this bout are Richard Clark, Daniel Bishop and James Atkins.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Flash closes the distance and pushes Abbey back into the cage.

Abbey manages to break the clinch.
Abbey darts in trying to clinch

and Flash counters with a takedown into side control.

Flash looking for an arm triangle but it's way too loose to do anything.
Flash trying to control the position but Abbey is working away.

Flash working hard here to secure a kimura but he's not really in the right position for it.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Flash wants to lay and pray for a moment but Abbey keeps working.

That's one minute gone in the round.

Flash decides to take the fight back to the feet.
Westminister Abbey is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
Abbey throws a right and a left that Flash avoids nicely.

Flash shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Oh and he's advanced to full mount straight away.
Flash wants to control but instead Abbey manages to regain half guard.
Flash is trying to control. Abbey wants to improve his position but can't escape this time.

Flash frees up his trapped foot and advances to mount.

Flash working for a submission but Abbey is keeping him at bay.

Flash wants to finish this one by submission but Abbey is holding onto his waist, trying to prevent any attacks from Flash.

Flash goes for an armbar but he's not got it… Abbey turns into him and now he's in Flash's guard.
Flash looking to hit a scissor sweep but Abbey is one step ahead there.

Flash trying to control the position.

Flash is looking for a triangle here but Abbey uses the submission attempt to pass into side control.
Flash regains half guard.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
Flash moves his hips nicely and gets into full guard.
Flash not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.
Flash wants to sweep but no luck.
Abbey trying to control but Flash is working from the bottom.
Flash controls Abbey momentarily but Abbey frees himself.
Flash bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Abbey's guard.

Flash has gone for a leg lock! Abbey slips out almost immediately though and dives into Flash's guard.

Abbey avoids a guillotine attempt easily.
Flash looks gassed!

Flash had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Abbey defends it easily.
Flash not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.

Flash has his foot on Abbey's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Abbey works his way back into a safe position though.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
Abbey pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Flash is keeping the position for now.
Flash is trying to keep Abbey in close.

Flash working away from the bottom but not quite defensive enough there because Abbey has passed into half guard!

Flash manages to escape and get back to his feet!

Abbey misses with a few strikes there.
Abbey tries to clinch but fails miserably

and Flash counters with a driving takedown into guard. Nice work there by Flash.
Flash throwing strikes but missing.
Flash wants to control from the top but Abbey keeps moving.
Flash is just sitting in guard, looking to avoid any submissions.

Flash gets to his feet - Abbey follows without any prompting.
Abbey throws a combination but comes up with nothing but fresh air.
Nice uppercut lands for Abbey. That snapped Flash's head back.

Flash closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Flash lands in his opponent's guard.

Flash drops back looking for a leg! Abbey is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Abbey manages to kick Flash off! Flash jumps back into Abbey's guard.

Abbey is working an open guard so Flash takes the opportunity to get back to his feet.

That's nine minutes gone in the round.
Abbey falls off balance throwing a combination

and Flash counters by moving into the clinch.
Nice body punch from Abbey.
Abbey is pressed up against the cage. Flash has hold of a leg and is looking to drag Abbey down to the mat. Abbey avoids the attempt though and has circled away. We're back to striking at a distance.
Abbey tries to clinch but fails miserably

and Flash counters with a shoot takedown into half guard.
Abbey is trying to stand up here but Flash is controlling him well.

Flash is sneakily working for an arm triangle but Abbey sees it coming and defends easily.
Flash wants to control but Abbey is keeping him busy.
Flash trying to pass the guard but Abbey defending well.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Jeff Flash dominated that round.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action! So, we enter the final round. Let's see if either fighter can bring us a finish, or whether we're going to the judges scorecards.


Abbey swings for the body but Flash moves out of range.
Abbey throws a hook but Flash blocks it.

Flash looking for a takedown here - he's got it.
Flash trying to control the position from guard on top but Abbey is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Abbey is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Flash drops back, looking for a kneebar! Abbey looks panicked! The fighters roll across the mat, one looking to finish, one looking to escape. Abbey looks to have wriggled free... Yes, he's got his leg free and he's dived into side control! Good work there from Abbey!
Flash gets back to half guard.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Flash actively working from the bottom here.
Flash is looking for a sweep. Abbey is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.
Flash manages to get to full guard.

Flash throws his legs up looking for a submission but Abbey uses it to pass to side control.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.

Abbey decides to take the fight back to the feet.
Flash misses with a looping left.
Abbey throws a jab but it's blocked by Flash.
Abbey just misses with a punch to the body.
Abbey throws a right hand that Flash ducks under and follows up with a left that Flash also avoids with ease.
Abbey throws a wild combination but nothing lands.
Abbey misses with a hook. Flash ducked under it nicely.

That's three minutes gone in the round.

Flash darts in and lands a nice takedown into half guard.
Flash content to sit in half guard and control for a moment.
Flash is looking to take a break and control but Abbey is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.

Flash stands up from half guard.

Flash shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Abbey's guard.
Jeff Flash has got the better of the ground game so far.

Flash in full guard, throwing the ground and pound. No damage this time.
Flash won't allow Abbey to sweep him here.

Abbey is working an open guard so Flash takes the opportunity to get back to his feet.
Flash blocks a jab.

Abbey moves into the clinch successfully.
Abbey has had enough of the clinch but Flash keeps him there for the moment.
Flash blocks a punch to the side of the head.
Abbey tries to circle away but Flash has him pinned against the cage.
Flash keeps control of Abbey as he tries to wriggle out of the double underhooks.
Flash tries for a takedown. No joy.
Flash tries to take the fight to the ground by pulling guard but can't manage it.

Flash has picked Abbey up - he's going for a ride! Flash dumps his opponent to the mat with a thud and settles into half guard.
Flash wants to pass the guard but Abbey is defending well.

That's five minutes gone in the round.
Abbey wants to get back to full guard.
Flash is taking a breather. Abbey says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something.

Flash is trying for a kimura here. Abbey looks like he's in a lot of pain... and he's tapping out! Flash wins by kimura!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 5:41 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Kimura). Jeff Flash!
