PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Kanbei Shimada (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and rorouni kenshin (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Shimada kept the crowd waiting but all that was forgotten when his ring entrance music started. The incomparable musical genius that is Party and Bullshit. Both fighters look fresh as a daisy as they make their way towards the cage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 5 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, rorouni kenshin!
The judges for this bout are Shigeki Sano, Sosuke Kotani and Kenichi Hosakawa.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
kenshin goes to the watering hole and comes back with a big thumbs up from the judges as he scores a three punch combo.
kenshin tries to clinch up.
kenshin wants to clinch up but Shimada keeps it at a distance.
kenshin tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Shimada paws at him with a jab and circles away.
Shimada takes a step back and watches a body kick go sailing past his mid section.

rorouni kenshin seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Shimada shoots in looking for a takedown. kenshin tries to sprawl out of it but Shimada keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. kenshin manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.

Shimada drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Shimada jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Shimada has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.

Shimada is moving around in side control but his primary objective seems to be to maintain the position.

kenshin tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Shimada wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control.

Shimada's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.
Shimada shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts kenshin as he jumps to the side.
Shimada changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. kenshin tries to avoid it but Shimada manages to keep hold of a leg and drag kenshin to the ground. kenshin escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.

Shimada shoots in with a lovely double leg takedown. kenshin manages to land in full guard to minimise the damage.

Shimada uses his free foot to push down on kenshin's thigh. Eventually he works his other foot free and he's advanced to mount - this is trouble for kenshin.

Shimada has worked his way into a potential kimura here. kenshin is trying to get out of the position but his squirming has just got him deeper into trouble. Shimada yanks on the arm and kenshin is forced to tap due to a very painful looking submission! Nice work by Shimada.
