Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Lucas Santana (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Sonny Sanchez (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). The atmosphere really building for this one as we go over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Lucas Santana!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Sonny Sanchez!
The judges for this bout are Mauricio Rocha, Emerson Jorge and Edson Gomes.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Santana fails with a takedown attempt.
Santana shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Sanchez as he avoids it easily.
Santana shoots in but no luck this time.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Lucas Santana. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Santana on the wrong end of a vicious looking body shot.
Sanchez dips to his left and cracks Santana with an uppercut!
Sanchez misses with a jab, cross combination.
Sanchez avoids the clinch attempt nicely.

Sanchez darts in and clinches Santana up against the ropes.
Santana is trying to break the clinch but Sanchez has him pressed against the ropes.
Santana looks like he'd prefer to be striking at range right now.
Sanchez wants to strike at distance but he can't break free of the clinch.
Sanchez is leaning against Santana and scores with a nice uppercut to the body.
Santana is breathing heavily.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Santana prevents Sanchez from breaking the clinch.
Santana has Sanchez pressed against the ropes, preventing Sanchez from circling away and getting back to striking at range.
Sanchez tries a knee to the head but Santana blocks it.
Sanchez has had enough of the clinch and is looking to separate.
Sanchez goes for a takedown attempt but Santana pushes him away and we're back to fighting at a distance.

Sanchez forces Santana back against the ropes and clinches.
Sanchez wants to stall.
Santana fails to pull the fight into his guard.

Sanchez tries to break the clinch but Santana is controlling the position.

Santana stops a takedown attempt from Sanchez.
Santana tries to jump guard but he falls flat on his backside. Sanchez smiles and moves away.
Sanchez stalks Santana and leaps in with a furious combination of punches. Uppercuts and crosses smash into Santana's face. Santana staggers backwards, shaken.

Santana fails with the takedown.
Lucas Santana seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Sanchez misses with a double jab.
Santana shoots in looking for a takedown. Sanchez tries to sprawl out of it but Santana keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the ropes. Sanchez manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.

The fight moves into the clinch position.
Santana has Sanchez pressed against the ropes, preventing Sanchez from circling away and getting back to striking at range.
Santana gets underhooks to prevent Sanchez's takedown attempt.

Sanchez gets the body lock takedown. After a quick scramble, Santana regains guard.
Sanchez is stalling in the full guard.

Santana is trying to control the position but Sanchez postures up.

The fighters are trapped in the ropes so we're going to have a reposition here. The ref calls for a break and repositions the fighters in the center of the ring.

Sanchez stands up over Santana, holding his feet. He dives back in and lands a decent shot to the head.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fighter is doing enough on the ground.
Santana throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.
Santana tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Sanchez swivels and escapes.
Sanchez throws a leg kick but Santana sees it coming and checks it nicely.
Sanchez is looking to take this fight into the clinch.
Sanchez misses with a low kick.
Sanchez tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.
A combination from Sanchez does no damage.
Santana tries to clinch up.
Sanchez lands with a nice combination. Santana backs away looking to recover.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Sanchez wants to clinch up but Santana keeps it at a distance.
Sanchez tries to close the distance and clinch but Santana swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.
Sanchez's corner calls for a 1,2 combination and Sanchez duly obliges.
Sanchez throws a head kick that misses.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Sonny Sanchez dominated that round.

Santana shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. Sanchez defends it nicely.
Santana misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.
Santana shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it.

A bit of a lull in the action. I'm sure it will pick up again soon... even if the ref has to physically pick them up and put them back on their feet.

Santana gets caught on his heels momentarily as he allows Sanchez to score an easy takedown into full guard.

Santana tries to close the distance and clinch up but Sanchez swats him away and circles back towards the center.

Sanchez frees up his trapped foot and advances to mount.

BOOM! Sanchez connects with a massive shot to the dome!
Santana is trying to escape the mount.
