PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Taika Lono (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Joey Gambino (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 4 - 1 - 0, fighting out of London, Taika Lono!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Joey Gambino!
The judges for this bout are Donald Grub, Colin Fotheringham and James Ackerman.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Nice jab there from Lono.
Lono digs a good body shot into Gambino's ribs.
Gambino keeping a good distance there, avoiding the body shot.
Lono keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl.
Lono ducks low and lands a nice hook to the body of his opponent.
Gambino misses with a straight right.
Lono scores with a jab.
Gambino takes a big uppercut there. He seems a bit wobbly but no, he's OK.

and Lono makes him pay by landing a nice hook to the body before moving out of range.
Gambino walks straight into an uppercut. Luckily it didn't land flush.
Gambino thows a left - swing and a miss!
Lono tries to clinch up.

Lono misses with a double jab.
Lono keeps his opponent at a distance with a nice jab.
Lono throws a series of punches but Gambino avoids them all with ease.
A jab from Lono does it's job there.
Lono really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.
Lono lands a vicious shot with the stealth of a sniper and the strength of a viper. Are vipers that strong? I can think of lots of things that are stronger than a viper - not many rhyme with sniper though.

Gambino fails with the takedown.
Lono is using his reach advantage well here, landing the more effective single shots from range.
Gambino will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.
Taika Lono has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Joey Gambino.

and Lono counters with a quick right hand to the jaw.
Lono is using his height advantage well here, landing a good percentage of his punches.

Lono gets taken down but at least he's managed to land in guard.
Lono is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

Lono wants to stand but Gambino is controlling the position.
Lono knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Gambino on the ground.
Lono has Gambino pulled in close to control his posture.
Gambino stops Lono from standing up.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Lono controlling the position.
Lono wants to get back to his feet but he's too absorbed in his own little project and Gambino manages to pass to side control.

Gambino is looking for a kimura but Lono is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Gambino to get the leverage.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!

Gambino shakes his hands off, looking to compose himself, but takes a jab to the jaw whilst he does it.
A slow jab from Lono misses its intended target.

Lono misses with a telegraphed body shot
and Gambino counters with a crisp hook to the side of the head.
Gambino ducks under an overhand right and circles away with a smile on his face.
Gambino throws the left hand but Lono avoids the punch easily.
Gambino has his takedown stuffed
and Lono makes him pay by landing a nice hook to the body before moving out of range.

Lono moves into the clinch successfully.
Lono lands with a light punch inside.

Lono throws a blind hook that connects with the side of Gambinos head.
Lono misses with a short punch on the inside.
A short uppercut from Lono.
A quick uppercut on the inside from Lono.
Lono lands a nice looking hook to the body, against the cage.
Gambino tries to take the fight to the ground by pulling guard but can't manage it.
Lono makes some space for himself and lands an uppercut.
Lono throws a hook to the body. More of an arm punch but it's all scoring with the judges.
Lono lands a body shot in the clinch.
Lono lands a right uppercut that snaps the head of Gambino backwards.
Lono fails to land with a short punch on the inside.
Lono stalling the fight.
Lono lands a hook that snaps the head of Gambino backwards.
Lono throws a blind hook that connects with the side of Gambinos head.


Gambino is rocked!

Lono lands a nice uppercut.
Gambino is still on wobbly legs! Can Lono finish him?
Lono unloads with a big right hand that wobbles Gambino! He's leaning against the cage trying to keep his feet but Lono is unloading with more strikes now! Gambino drops to his knees and the referee stops the fight for a TKO!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:13 of round 2, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Taika Lono!
