Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Joe Slaughter (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Josh Glick (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Chooooooooon! I think Slaughter might be my favorite fighter, now he's come out to Johnny Cash - Hurt. Glick has chosen Down to the fall of us as his entrance music. Joe Slaughter has the better chin. Will he look to stand and bang today?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 3 - 0, fighting out of New York, Joe Slaughter!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of New York, Josh Glick!
The judges for this bout are Columbo Gatti, Alyssa Summers and Jonathan Paton.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Glick feints and as Slaughter raises his hands in defense, Glick changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard.
Glick trying to control but Slaughter is working from the bottom.
Glick preventing the sweep.
Glick stays in close to Slaughter's body and controls the position.
Glick won't allow Slaughter to sweep him here.
Glick stops Slaughter from standing up.
Glick looking to pass the guard.
Slaughter is trying to control the position but Glick postures up.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Glick bobs and weaves and throws out a fast jab that snaps Slaughter's head backwards.

Glick throws a series of punches but Slaughter moves out of range.
Left hook, right uppercut from Glick.
Slaughter throws a right hand that Glick ducks under and follows up with a left that Glick also avoids with ease.

Slaughter tries to keep at a distance but Glick has taken the fight into the clinch.

Slaughter breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
Slaughter defends well against a solid takedown attempt from Glick.
Glick lands with a two punch combination before moving back out of range.

and Glick counters with a takedown into side control.
Slaughter prevents Glick from moving into mount.
Glick happy to just control the position for now.
Slaughter tries to bench press Glick off him but Glick keeps the position.

Glick tries for a kimura but Slaughter is defending well.

Glick wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Slaughter, who protects the arm well.
Glick looks gassed!

Glick goes for an armbar here - this could be all over! But no, Slaughter has escaped beautifully and is now on top in side control! Oh, that's unlucky for Glick but great work by Slaughter.
Slaughter wants to control but Glick is keeping him busy.
Slaughter lands a decent elbow from side control.

You can see the frustration on Glick's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.
Glick tries to buck Slaughter off but Slaughter is having none of it.
Slaughter working the ground and pound but he's contacting the mat, not the fighter.
Slaughter creates some space and throws a big elbow, but Glick sees it coming and moves his head just enough to avoid the strike.
Glick tries to improve position but can't.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.
Nice defenses there by Glick.
Glick shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Slaughter but Slaughter pushes him off and we're back to square one.

Slaughter closes the distance and clinches.
Slaughter tries to land a knee to the body but he is off balance and Glick avoids it.
Slaughter changes levels and goes for a takedown here. Glick fights it off and pushes away nicely.
Glick defends well against a solid takedown attempt from Slaughter.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
Slaughter paws at his opponent with the jab and then lunges in with a straight, right on the button.
Slaughter will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Joe Slaughter. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Glick shoots in for a takedown from distance. He catches Slaughter napping and manages to drive through into side control!
Both fighters really going for it on the ground here!

Glick goes for an armbar! This could be all over! Wait, no, Slaughter rolls with the submission and now he's on top in Glick's guard! Nice work there by Slaughter!

Slaughter postures up in Glick's guard and throws a big left but Glick blocks it.
Slaughter cracks Glick with a solid left hand.
Slaughter throws a big right hand that misses.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Glick pulls Slaughter in close to his closed guard and prevents Slaughter from doing any damage or advancing position.

and Glick counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Slaughter is avoiding any damage by keeping wrist control.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Glick drops back, looking for a kneebar! Slaughter looks panicked! The fighters roll across the mat, one looking to finish, one looking to escape. Slaughter looks to have wriggled free... Yes, he's got his leg free and he's dived into side control! Good work there from Slaughter!
Slaughter is looking to take a break and control but Glick is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
Slaughter throwing ground and pound but whilst doing so, he forgets to control position and Glick works his way back to half guard. Good composure under pressure.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
Glick avoiding damage under a succession of punches from Slaughter.
Glick is refusing to be controlled, as Slaughter sits in half guard.

Slaughter's ground tactics aren't going to win him many fans. Let's hope he's got fireworks for us if he gets back to his feet because he's not doing much on the ground.

Slaughter thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Glick's head.
Glick tries to get to full guard but Slaughter has control of the leg.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fighter is doing enough on the ground.
Glick shoots in for a takedown but Slaughter shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet.

Glick working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Slaughter doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Slaughter manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.

Josh Glick showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.

Slaughter moves in looking to clinch but Glick pushes him off.
Glick throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Slaughter's waist but Slaughter gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Glick off to one side.

Slaughter tries to score a power double leg takedown but Glick sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Slaughter somewhat.
Ouch! a nice leg kick from Glick, right into the meat.
Slaughter slips a jab and a cross from Glick.
Glick changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Slaughter tries to avoid it but Glick manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Slaughter to the ground. Slaughter escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Glick shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Slaughter pinned against the cage. Slaughter gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.
Joe Slaughter has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Josh Glick.

and Glick counters with a nice double leg into side control. Slaughter won't be happy with that.
Glick is trying to ground and pound but Slaughter uses the momentary lack of control by Glick to regain half guard.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.
Slaughter shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Glick pinned against the cage. Glick gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.

Glick moves into the clinch successfully.
Joe Slaughter has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!

Slaughter turns his back and goes for a hip toss. It's a bit messy but it gets the job done and Slaughter manages to end up in side control.
Glick is looking for a sweep.
Slaughter wants to lay and pray for a moment but Glick keeps working.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Glick can do anything to dispel that myth.

Slaughter has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
Glick regains half guard.

Slaughter misses with a head shot. Glick uses the momentum to regain guard.
Slaughter trying to control the position from guard on top but Glick is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Slaughter in full guard, throwing the ground and pound. No damage this time.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.

and Glick counters with a body kick that stops Slaughter in his tracks momentarily.

Glick shoots in and bounces Slaughter off the cage to secure the takedown into guard.
Glick must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.

Glick drops back looking for a heel hook - he quickly realises he's not going to get it but Slaughter manages to dive on top of him before he can escape and now Glick has Slaughter in his guard.
Glick tries to land a sweep but no joy.

And that's the end of the fight!
Josh Glick comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Glick has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
