PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between demian maia (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Paul King (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Well, the cameraman is lingering on a pretty young lady for a bit too long there. Keep your eyes on the fighters buddy or you'll miss the fighter intros!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
maia fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.
maia tries to clinch but King moves out of range.
maia moves in looking to clinch but King pushes him off.

King moves into range and clinches up with maia.

King drags the fight down to the ground.
King has a closed guard, preventing anything of note from happening. Perhaps he's looking to stall.

King is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.
maia is pressing down on King's left leg trying to get back to full guard. He's managed it.

maia could do with loosing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

maia working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. King doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. King manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.

maia is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and King defends well.
King has decided he wants to stand but the closed guard of maia is proving hard to escape from.
King controls from within his opponent's guard.
maia keeping moving, preventing King from controlling successfully.

maia had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. King defends it easily.

King really doesn't want to stay on the ground with maia. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

King stands up and waves to maia to follow him.
King throws a wild combination but nothing lands.

maia throws the overhand right but ducks down into a quick takedown attempt. King was covering up waiting for the punch and maia finishes the takedown easily into guard.

King has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but maia can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.

maia thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.
maia prevents King from getting back to his feet.

maia throws a big right hand that misses.
King keeping full guard, as maia tries to pass.
King preventing the ground and pound from doing any damage.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.

Excellent takedown into side control there by maia.
maia working away diligently from side control. Landing strikes effectively there - that will score him some points on the judges scorecards.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

maia is trying to get an arm triangle but King is defending well.
maia is breathing heavily.
maia connects with a decent looking elbow from side control that caused King some visible discomfort.

King is looking for a sweep.

and King counters with a slapping leg kick.

King scores a trip takedown into side control. Nice.

King decides to stand up, so the ref orders maia to his feet.

maia is looking to sinch up a guillotine here but King pulls his head out easily.
King wants to stand up but maia is controlling the position.

maia moves his hips nicely and gets into full guard.

King decides he's had enough of playing guard and decides to stand. Come on maia, up you get!
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

King stalks maia and leaps in with a furious combination of punches. Uppercuts and crosses smash into maia's face. maia staggers backwards, shaken.
King throws a series of punches but maia moves out of range.
maia closes the distance looking to clinch
and King counters with a head kick. That will keep maia thinking before he tries any more sloppy attacks!

King manages to break the clinch.

King looking for a takedown here - he's got it.
maia is trying to control the position from the bottom.
King must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.

maia has managed to work for a loose triangle. I think King should be able to defend this one pretty easily though. Oh, maia has tightened it up now! King should have reacted faster there - he's in big trouble and yes, he's tapped out! This one is all over!
